Top 5 remake abominations

1. The Wicker Man
2. The Island of Dr. Moreau
3. Psycho
4. The Pink Panther
5. Cabin Fever

reply

I have unfortunately seen 4 out of five of those. The Wicker Man is the worst to me, but then again I didn't like the original either.

reply

You avoided the Pink Panther too?

reply

No I missed The Island of Doctor Moreau. One of my friends thought the Pink Panther would be good cause of Steve Martin, boy was he wrong.

reply

That's hilarious.

Miracle on 34th Street
Mean Girls
The Day the Earth Stood Still
War of the Worlds
Roadhouse

reply

I like the Cabin Fever remake. To answer this question any gender swapped remake or Reboot. Rough Night or Ghostbusters 2016 come to mind.

The Wicker Man
Get Carter
Sleuth
Straw Dogs
The Jackal

I'm not sure if Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, that one with Johnny Depp, counts as a remake of Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory or not, or if it's just another version of the same story, but Good Lord it was an abomination.

reply

This is another reason why I don't watch Tim Burton movies made after 1995.

reply

The Alice in Wonderland movie in 2010 and Corpse Bride aren't so bad. But yeah, he's made a few stinkers since '95.

reply

Frankly, just the previews and the few clips I watched were enough to deter me from watching that crap remake. It looks so soulless and fake. The characters barely show any emotions and the CGI looks cheaply done. Plus, I couldn't stand Johnny Depp's version of Wonka.

At least with the 70s film, you didn't mind the fake special-effects because it didn't deter from the story.

reply

So true. My kids wanted to see it. We figured it would be a learning experience. It certainly was.

reply

1. Point Break
2. The Mummy (Tom Cruise one)
3. Oldboy
4. Psycho
5. Conan the Barbarian (Jason Momoa one)

reply

Clash of the Titans (2010)
Ghostbusters (2016)
The Day the Earth Stood Still
Hellboy (2019)
Charlie and the Chocolate Factory

reply

Ghostbusters (2016) - the funniest thing about the film is for a girl power movie made up of comedians, the funniest person is Hemsworth a man not known for making comedies.

reply

Gee, seems like it has something in common with the Barbie movie: the one GUY in the movie is more popular and noteworthy than all the stupid women in it!!

reply

If I've seen the original and enjoyed it, I won't even watch the remake.

reply

Not a bad idea. Though, I would have missed out on the Blob. I really love the original and enjoy the remake.

reply

I wonder if the genre has any bearing on whether folks watch remakes or not. 🤔

reply

As a horror guy, yes. Remakes are part of the deal. Sometimes you get Dawn of the Dead. Other times you get night of the living dead 3D with Sid Haig.

reply

I get it. I don't care for horror movies, so I wouldn't watch any version of a horror movie. I can do suspense, but not horror. Not a sci-fi fan, either. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

reply

My mother is like that. She'll enjoy silence of the lambs or seven but couldn't handle Halloween. Which is funny because it's less gory and graphic.

reply

I don't think I could handle Silence of the Lambs. Not sure about Seven.
