Name the movie or TV house you would most want to live in.
Me: Aunt Beru and Uncle Owen's dome-shaped house from Star Wars (pre-annihilation). I love her kitchen especially. I would like to sit in there and drink blue milk with Aunt Beru. It's cozy.
Once again, a good topic. For some reason, my mind immediately went to the Walton home during The Great Depression. Interestingly enough, the narrator compares it to "comfort food" and these images look very much like a Norman Rockwell painting. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H3O46PKhBoc
I love both The Waltons TV show and their home. Interestingly, I was just thinking about it yesterday. Their home reminds me of my grandparents' home, not so much the floorplan but the furnishings and cookware. They grew up during the Depression and I think had some of the items from the homes they grew up in by the time I was visiting them.
That sounds like fun! I just looked it up and love the decor. Reminds me of The Brady Bunch time which is the happiest time for me because it was around my childhood.
It'd be better if you lived in it when the curse is lifted but you draw faces on tea pots and mugs and candlesticks and other crockery and throw them around the ball room whilst you sing a dronken rendition of the 'Be out guest' song
Is it too late to change my answer? π I should have said The Brady Bunch house, too. That's the best one of all. I watch The Brady Bunch all the time and enjoy being transported back to the time of my childhood for 30 minutes.
Maybe I'll say The Brady Bunch for the "TV house" and Aunt Beru and Uncle Owen's house for the "movie house".
Also I just looked up that apartment in Green Card and it's beautiful. The writer of the article that the picture was associated with said that apartment was the most memorable thing about the movie. I've never seen it.
I looked it up and both it and the natural area around it are beautiful. I'm a nature girl and need to be able to see trees from my house. Although we're in a neighborhood, we're on a cul-de-sac so thankfully all that is behind us is wilderness.
We are on a cul-de-sac as well, surrounded by thousands of acres of forested hills, wetlands, fishable waters and lots of hiking trails. We call this βGodβs Countryβ though the work commute into the city can be hellπ
Iβm in the Lower Hudson River Valley of New York and yes, it really does look like a Bob Ross painting out there.
No streetlights, minimal noise from neighbors, drivers take it slow because all of the kids and dogsβ¦We love it here, itβs quite different from The Bronx and Yonkers!
GREAT movie!
Iβve been to the forts up by Lake George and Lake Champlaine a number of times. Itβs beautiful country up that way but itβs a couple hours north of my area.
When that soundtrack really kicks in and you begin to see the panoramic view of that
mountain range...WOW! It just stirs my soul because it reminds me so much of Germany as a boy. Used to go mountain climbing with my uncle when I was 6 years old.
The farthest north I've been in New York is Schenectady. My father-in-law was from there. Looking at current pictures, it looks very similar to Wichita.
I like that hat, I should get oneπ
Itβs a common saying here too. The big city is getting quite bad (drug addicts spiking in broad daylight, rampant auto parts theft, sex work in the middle of the day, senseless shootings at all hoursβ¦)
Iβm happy to live 60 miles from the shenanigans!
Montana has always looked beautiful and wild. Iβve only ever been as far west as Wichita Kansas which was really nice. The people were polite and there was a cool Native American museum.
I found multiple pictures of Wayne Manor, both of actual places and drawings but regardless of which one was most accurate they all look quite nice! Plus you'd have Batman to protect you. Unless you're planning to be Batman.
At the very beginning of the movie "2010," you see this amazing house that the Roy Scheider character is living in with his family in Florida. The house apparently has access to the ocean, and dolphins can swim right into the family room so that his son can play with them whenever he wants. The wall-to-wall fish tanks also look pretty in the rooms too :)
I could also go for Prince Eric's castle in "The Little Mermaid." Basically, any pretty house by the ocean :)
Wall-to-wall fish tanks sound beautiful. They also sound like a lot of work, but I guess if you have the wealth to have such things you can afford to hire someone to take care of them. π We used to have a small saltwater tank and it was a fun but time-consuming hobby. And I love a good Oceanfront vacation rental. Having the sound of the ocean right outside your door would be very nice.
It's interesting, the choice you made :) It turns out most of the Lars Homestead house is actually underground, and that little domed structure you saw was just the entrance to a staircase that leads down to the sunken courtyards. I figured this out when playing Star Wars the Old Republic and was visiting Tattooine (the devs did a really good job recreating the buildings from that planet). It seems people living on most of Tattooine, particularly the moisture farmers who have been around for generations, were clever in both protecting their homes from the heat, as well as making it difficult for Sand People to bother them, should they move into the area (in one of my missions on Tattooine, I had to help a moisture farmer who couldn't leave his home because a tribe of Sand People had moved in right on top of his house and was preventing him from getting enough water to wait them out). Evidently sand is a good insulator against heat or cold in the desert. Plus they always have armored doors leading into the interior of their homes, and they're careful to stock up all the time, should trouble show up.
Yes, the first several times I saw that house I really only paid attention to the kitchen inside the little dome and had zoned out by the time they showed any underground portions. I really just like the cozy kitchen. π In retrospect I should have just said The Brady Bunch house. That's the house I really want to live in- both the upstairs and the downstairs.
Oh no, the house is just fine :) That breakfast nook with the painted ceiling looks as cozy as the kitchen. Plus, the sunsets are beautiful to watch in the evenings up above the house.
I've seen some beautiful tree houses, too, and have searched for some on airbnb. My husband and I like to stay in unique rentals and have stayed multiple times in yurts and in a tricked out Airstream. Hopefully I can find a treehouse someday to stay in. Even with my fear of heights I think I would enjoy it.
