Can anyone suggest some Horror films for my 10 year old daughter to watch?

We’re gradually introducing her to the horror genre. Unfortunately, my wife likes ‘crap horror films’, so I need some decent suggestions to counteract hers. So far we’ve watched: -
Alien (mine)
M3GAN (daughter)
The Babysitter (wife)
The Babysitter II (wife)
The Thing (mine)
The Haunting (wife)

Future suggestions: -
Poltergeist 1982 (mine)
13 Ghosts (wife)

It isn’t really a horror movie but The Bad Seed (1956) with Patty McCormack is pretty dark. Just hope it doesn’t give your daughter any ideas.

Thanks - added to the list.

Great story. Kept me glued to the screen until the very end.

Like proper horror or more kid-friendly, horror-lite? I'll recommend a mix:

The Fear Street film trilogy (2021)
Village of the Damned (1995)
IT (2017) and possibly the mini series (1990)
Summer of '84 (2018)
The Good Son (1993)
The Blair Witch Project (1999)
The Faculty (1998)
The Hole (2009)
The Addams Family (1991) and Addams Family Values (1993)

Movies I second:
Firestarter (1984)
Scream (1996)
The Sixth Sense (1999)
The Craft (1996)
The Lost Boys (1987)

Return to Oz is horrifying even though it's not the horror genre {shudders😖}

reply

We’re massive Oz fans and we watched this a few years ago; she loved it.

Room For Rent

It's from 2019, realistic horror.. There is a scene implying oral sex, but I don't remember nudity.. I don't want to spoil it, but I'm not a father, either, but there is a bit of cocaine sniffing by this old granny who finds a bag.

Maybe one for a few years time.

Did anyone say Dead Alive yet?

No - added 👍

I mean, if she’s basically cinematically educated, feed her a little bit of Under the Skin, see how that tastes. Whoof! (Maybe Eraserhead?) 🤷🏻‍♂️

reply

It might be a little to soon for those right now - maybe in a couple of years.

In that case, ease her in with The Elephant Man. Not traditionally horror, but I became obsessed with the film at age 10. The film taught me how to be an empathetic person.

I shall add it to the list 👍

Horror with a laugh:

*Topper
*The Ghost and Mr. Chicken
*About and Costello The Time of Their Lives

Something Wicked This Way Comes (1983). Based on a Ray Bradbury story.

Might be the scariest children's film that Disney ever did.

Good book too👍
