Can anyone suggest some Horror films for my 10 year old daughter to watch?

We’re gradually introducing her to the horror genre. Unfortunately, my wife likes ‘crap horror films’, so I need some decent suggestions to counteract hers. So far we’ve watched: -
Alien (mine)
M3GAN (daughter)
The Babysitter (wife)
The Babysitter II (wife)
The Thing (mine)
The Haunting (wife)

Future suggestions: -
Poltergeist 1982 (mine)
13 Ghosts (wife)

I’m surprised no one mentioned Beetlejuice (1988)!

Have you considered "Beetlejuice"?

reply

At the top of the list.

I'm surprised no one mentioned Jaws. Also, what about Watership Down? It's not really a horror movie, but it has some scary elements.

reply

We’ll get round to Jaws eventually. I think we did Watership Down when she was about 3 or 4, lol.

reply

This is not a horror movie but it does have some parts that could be legitimately scary for a 10-year-old. And it's a darn good movie.

The Ghost and Mr. Chicken

Thanks. I think someone already suggested this one.

There's always Spielberg's debut film 'Duel'; no supernatural elements or a boogeyman, just an incident turned road rage on an otherwise uninteresting day in the desert.

Then there's the coming-of-age young adult psychological thriller 'The New Mutants'.

It shares a lot of similarities with 'Buffy the Vampire Slayer'; right down to some of the characterizations (Buffy cameo too). Long-time film enthusiasts will find a lot of familiar ground from other movies, so it may not leave much of an impression, but it's a solid story told in just roughly an hour and a half. Your daughter may find a lot desirable about it if looking for something less intense though still unsettling.

Duel is sooooo good. Great suggestion!

I’m not sure if she’d enjoy Duel - maybe one for the future.

Unfortunately, I found New Mutants to be a bit meh.

I don't think I've seen Ernest Scared Stupid mentioned yet. I love that movie!!

Added (that’s about 130 films now!) 👍

There's a film I just remembered that I saw years ago. It's a Stephen King film that's lesser known compared to his other (remade too many times) stories. It was called "Silver Bullet," and was about a teenage boy in a wheelchair who was investigating a strange string of murders going on in his town, which turned out to be caused by a werewolf. He and his girlfriend team up to do research on how to kill it, and craft a silver bullet. It's probably the only Stephen King film I've seen that has a "happy ending," where the heroes don't die before it's over.
