No...definitely not. I think they spent about 87 minutes writing the entire script. The home invasion genre can make for an excellent film. This was definitely not one of them. "The Purge" (original) and "Hush" are good examples of how to do the genre right. Agreed. Haneke's spin doesn't even make any sense. He's telling us that he made a film that people should have walked out on? Or never seen in the first place? Why even bother to make the junk then? Not a chance these days. Which is a shame because, let's face it, funny is funny. Absolutely horrifying. Even scarier is that tribes like the Comanche did this kind of thing for real. If you ever want to read about real life horror shows check out Empire of the Summer Moon by S.C. Gwynne. Hunter doing it for the instaclicks, bro! Right?! So good. "She was a PE teacher..." I don't recall them mentioning a price tag, but I'm sure it was a lot. I'm pretty sure the Hispanic dude in the hat was doing his part under duress (they were holding his boyfriend captive) and the black dude was not in on it. They thought he would be on the bag scanning machine which is why they were stalking his family...so they could blackmail the black male. It was a complex operation with lots of players. And the ones who were paying would've have likely made hundreds of millions or possibly billions from the defense contracts. Rod Dreher has an interesting review that discusses the theology of the film. Worth a read if you have time. https://roddreher.substack.com/p/nosferatu-sex-death-bloodsucking View all replies >
