Ok, Let's Discuss The Topic of TIPPING

So being single and working the overnight shift, I have a tendency to eat out quite often and many times I order from the restaurant's online menu and in the end, when it comes time to pay for the "To Go Order", it'll give you Tipping Options like 10%, 15% 20% etc. I generally tip 15% because I know inflation is tough, but here's the thing: When I arrive at the Restaurant to pick up my to go order, they expect a Tip for bagging the food up and one time I didn't tip the person handing me the bag and she was pissed about it because I didn't tip her for taking the time to bag the food and whatnot, even after I already tipped 15% Online.. How do you feel about this?? Is this acceptable?? πŸ€”

reply

If you want to tip just select no tip in the app and when you pick up the food just tip the person directly in cash.

reply

This is clearly the way to do it...

They should just raise the wages of employees. In my simple view, tipping promotes favoritism (attractive service people would get tipped more than less attractive people, there's the risk that people won't tip and also the retribution employees may have on non-tippers, and stuff like that.)

reply

We rarely tip down here in the Southern Hemisphere.

reply

Pay in cash and tips are 100% up to you. Pay digitally and you get hit with ads. One being for the tip.

I never tip for carry out - where all I do is go up to a counter and pick up my order -same with places like Panera where I walk up, place my order, pick it up, and then clean up my dishes when I'm done - yet they have a place on the screen to add a tip - ridiculous! I tip at sit down restaurants and at the salon where I get my nails and hair done.
Vacations are a different matter - but it's always because someone provides a service and as Andy mentioned, it really depends on the country and their customs.

reply

As I’ve often said, when I’m on holiday, if I tip well on day one, I get treated like royalty for the rest of my stay (it pays to be nice to the staff too).

reply

I'd tell her I already tipped on-line, and to think before opening her pie hole. But nicely.

reply

Yeah, I took my order and began to walk out and I could hear her say "Oh, it's going to be like that now huh??" because I didn't tip her and she was the bartender handling the carryout orders and tending to the Bar.

reply

And if she's not getting a portion of the on-line tips (which I doubt), that's the establishment's issue.

reply

Never tip.

Let the owner pay the staff properly.

If they want to factor that into the price of items so be it.

reply

"pay the staff properly."

Well, that's the problem right there if you're talking about a server in the USA...Minimum wage for tipped workers in the various states ranges from $2.13 to $12.75 an hour!

reply

Don't give money to businesses that hire slaves.

reply

1. Yeah, you should complain to the resteraunt. Maybe verify that the online tips are going to the staff and dthe shitty owner is not keeping them.

2. There is no reason that being a waitress cannot be a viable job. When I worked in a resteraunt back in the 80s, many of the waitresses were supporting themselves on the money they made there. It will be the rare waitress or bartender that reaches MIDDLE CLASS status, but the difference between "WORKING POOR and "POVERTY" is signifcant.

reply

I mean, I like to think I'm pretty generous in tipping when I go out to eat.. I took my friend Carol to Lunch the other day, the Bill was $45.00 and I gave the server $15.00 for her tip

reply

We sometimes get carried away in this country talking about the middle class or the rich.

But the working poor is a significant portion of the population and their lives don't have to suck. With half decent policies they should still be able to afford to live, and maybe even own a small home and a car.

reply

Right. I had a service performed on me a couple of weeks ago.

The charge was 57 bucks - I gave the girl 70 in cash.

I thought that was fair.
