As Vince D already stated it's pretty cool to hear about how it all came together but I'd give it a higher rating than he did, I liked it a lot.
7/10 for me.
I've listened to it four times now, i think it's pretty a solid tune, if a bit sad.
I played it for my wife and she said 'this sounds fake' and left the garage. Twenty + years with this woman and I'll never understand her!
I like it a lot.
I like it. Nice piano chords. Nice strumming guitar. Message 'if I make it through, it's all because of you'. It speaks of how a relationship can literally save you.
"now and then I miss you" is poignant, given that two of the Beatles are no longer around.
Guitar solo with vocal harmonies is also quintessential Beatles.
Strings give it an subtle epicness to it as well.
I give it a solid 9!
Production & arrangement-wise, it sounds great given the advancements in the recording technology since the Anthology project & "Free As A Bird", & "Real Love".
Lyrically & musically though, there's really not much to it. Very little variations repeating the same couple of lines over & over. Not really one of Lennon's best songs.
6.5/10
I think of the 3 songs on that cassette, only Real Love was a finished song. There is a demo version of Real Love by John Lennon which to me is better than the Beatles version. The Beatles version added a lot of instrumentation but seems to take away a bit of the magic of just Lennon and his piano.
share4/10
Still better than anything KISS released.
How can you say that about a band that created lyrics like:
I got nasty habits, it's a fine line
So many girls and so little time
When love rears its head
I wanna get on your case, oh yeah
Oh babe, I wanna put my log in your fireplace
Ooh maybe, baby, you wanna get played
Like a modern Byron or Shelley.
Maybe you're right. That's Dylan-esque.
share4 of 10 very dreary..
shareYeah 5 or 6 for the song. Maybe 7 or 8 for the "ingenious" tech that enabled extracting dead Lennon's voice.
shareyawner.
cool background, generic boring tune
I really don’t want to hear it. I just view it as product.
