What is something that is clearly overpriced yet people still buy?

Well. since getting into trucking, I've found that a lot of truck parts are ridiculous. I needed a front shock bolt that had a groove worn into it and from Peterbilt, it's $370.00!! I welded the groove back up and ground it back to round on my bench grinder. Voila! Perfecto!
Oh, and diesel fuel! It's way cheaper to make than gasoline and costs more. Not fun since these trucks get between 5 and 8 miles per gallon.
Insurance for trucking. I ran a 3500 dually with a 3 car trailer for auto transport a few years, and the insurance was out of sight.
shareApple IPhones, no matter what model
sharemeh. ive never had an apple product die on me period, whether its an iphone or macbook or ipad. its like paying more for an american made appliance that you know will last (i know iphones arent made in america). theres value in reliability, build quality and resale value.
meanwhile like clockwork every single one of my PC laptops laptops something would break after 2 years. id start hearing a noise, or the hinge would start breaking, or itd be running like molasses. up until last year i was using a 10 year old macbook pro still working amazing and no issues

we get failing macs all the time in my line of work. all computers have issues
apples are solid.
however, I buy the absolute cheapest android cell phones from my carrier - like $69 to $150 range samsungs - for a decade and not one has ever failed me either. I retire them for a more advanced model: 4k video, better screen, faster processor... and use the old ones on wifi for video watching, surfing, emails...
...six of one....
starbucks. hell any fast food or at restaurants.
You know how much money i have saved making everything myself from scratch??
Wireless earphones.
- Bottled water: a plastic bottle that costs less than 1 cent to produce filled with stuff that literally falls from the sky on a regular basis in most parts of the world, and it often costs as much or more than a bottle of soda or beer.
- Anything sold by Gucci (and probably other so-called "luxury brands"), for example, a pennies-to-produce screen-printed T-shirt for $1,650:

- Nike and other big name sneakers. They all cost about $5 a pair to produce in e.g., China.
- Anything from Apple.
- Any new bicycle that costs over $500 (some of them cost more than some new motorcycles, which is obviously absurd).
- Saladmaster cookware.
- Gasoline.
- Doctor / hospital services.
Certain designer clothing. Edit: Just noticed above post by MaximRecoil after I posted below :)

This basic white shirt costs about $1500! 🤣 https://www.neimanmarcus.com/en-ca/p/givenchy-mens-tonal-layered-t-shirt-prod262090374?childItemId=NMNB2F0_&msid=4569837&navpath=cat000000_cat82040732_cat14120827_cat82180746&page=0&position=1

Anyone who can pay $1500 for a stupid T-shirt can certainly pay more in taxes. That's almost my entire monthly income, for Pete's sake!
(Sorry, this is too close to politics, isn't it?)

I recently ran out of Aventus. compared it to best selling knock off from amazon, and it smells just like it. $35!
shareI looked that up, that is indeed very expensive!
Here is a fun thing to do. https://www.fragrantica.com/perfume/Creed/Aventus-9828.html Scroll down a little to "Perfume Pyramid" and see all the notes. Then on this page https://www.fragrantica.com/ingredients-search/ select Gender: male and enter some or all of the notes, and you will see what other colognes have the same.
Tickets to Disney World (and anything purchased while there)
shareI don't understand how families these days can afford a Disney World trip. I've been once, but that was about a hundred years ago. My then-husband and I took our son there one time, but we lived in FL at the time so it was just gas to get there and admission to the park. Traveling from out-of-state and staying in a hotel would have been out of the question.
shareYep. Been to both Disneyland (late 1960s) and Disney World (early 1970s). You had to drive through miles of undeveloped land to get to Disney World. Even accounting for inflation, it was significantly cheaper back then. Not cheap, but cheaper.
