People who complain about things being woke annoy me just as much as people who think things can't be woke.
shareIt's another market -- the anti-woke industry.
shareIts just a way to give backlash to the George floyd riots and meetoo movement
WOKE IS FAKE...PEOPLE ARE PEOPLE...FILMS ARE AN ARTFORM...ART IS OFTEN SUPPOSED TO HAVE A MESSAGE...THE END.
shareYes, but often these films cross the line of what is woke. Some films shame an audience for believing a certain way. Think of it like vegans. It's fine if you don't want to eat anything from an animal, but don't judge me for doing it.
shareFILMS CANNOT SHAME YOU...IF YOU FEEL SHAME...THEN THE SHAME IS ON YOU.
shareYou really think there aren't movies that make fun of people for being overweight? I saw some lame movie with Zoey Deutch that kept calling men the worst.
shareHEAVYWEIGHTS IS A GREAT MOVIE...THE WHALE IS AN OSCAR WINNER...A FILM CANNOT SHAME YOU...YOUR REACTION TO A MESSAGE OR THEME CAN BE SHAME...BUT THAT IS ON YOU...NOT THE MOVIE.
shareIn The Whale, the main character is shamed for gaining his weight and being a deadbeat father because of it.
shareYET...NO "FATTIES" HAVE TAKEN TOMOVIECHAT TO SAY THE FILM SHAMED THEM...ODD.
shareMoviechat isn't the world.
shareAS FAR AS YOU AND I AND OUR SHARED FILM EXPERIENCE...YES...MOVIECHAT IS THE WORLD...ALSO NONE OF YOUR RESPONSES ACTUALLY SPEAK TO ANY OF MY COMMENTS.
shareWanna take a guess why this miniseries is rated so low?
https://m.imdb.com/title/tt17220204/?ref_=nv_sr_srsg_0_tt_2_nm_0_q_everything%2520is%2520gonna%2520be%2520all%2520white
THAT LOOKS LIKE IT WAS DESIGNED TO SHIT STIR...ALSO IT LOOKS BORING AS FUCK...THAT IS SOME BASIC ASS TROLL JOB SHIT,BRO.
I HAVE LINKS TOO.
https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0092339/?ref_=nv_sr_srsg_0_tt_8_nm_0_q_A%2520DIFFERENT%2520WORLD
Nothing wrong with that show.
The link I provided has been universally criticized. Even black people are disowning it.
WHY ARE YOU LINKING ME TO BAD PROGRAMMING?🫤
THAT NOBODY HAS HEARD ABOUT...EXCEPT PERHAPS...A WEIRDO...WHO SPENDS HIS TIME GOOGLING THE WORD WOKE.🤢
Cheap framing by calling it bad programming. This miniseries thought they were doing something good to call out racism, but they shot themselves in the foot.
shareDUDE...IT'S A MINISERIES...IT'S NON FICTION...IT'S ABOUT SKIN COLOR?...THAT IS FUCKING LAME...ONLY PERSON WHO WOULD WANT TO WATCH THAT IS PAUL FROM MAD ABOUT YOU.
shareBut that fact that it exists for the purpose to "educate" us about racism they think is due solely to white people is a problem in itself.
shareWHO TH FUCK IS "THEY"...A COUPLE NUMBNUTS WHO DECIDED TOMAKE A BORING ASS MINISERIES?...ELLEN CLEGHORNE ONCE HAD HER OWN SHOW...CALLED CLEGHORNE...WHO THE FUCK THOUGHT THAT WAS A GOOD IDEA?...A COUPLE OF NUMBNUTS.
shareYou said woke is fake. This tried to be woke and they became more racist than what they set out to be.
All of these can be true in media:
People complain things are woke when they're not.
People need to be more woke about certain things.
Fake wokeness exists
Wokeness can be good.
Wokeness can be bad.
I actually think people should complain more, maybe then it will stop.
shareThey should complain more for things that actually go too far. Too many people complain everything is woke.
shareI have to disagree with you on that, buddy. I think it's a big problem that has been ruining tv and movies for far too long.
shareTo me, having a black lead isn't woke. Why can't a black person be a lead? What I do find woke is purposely hiring a black lead so that you can hit some personal diversity quota. Anytime there's a black lead I hear, "woke!" Save those complaints when you see people going out of their way to be woke.

"To me, having a black lead isn't woke."
I don't think the majority of people complaining about wokeness consider that to be the problem.
"What I do find woke is purposely hiring a black lead so that you can hit some personal diversity quota."
Most people consider that to be the problem. Also, changing the race of white historical and iconic fictional characters for no other reason than to be diverse
"Anytime there's a black lead I hear, "woke!""
I disagree. It's not because the lead is black, it's because usually the movie always contains some BS commentary on race and evil white people.

"Majority? No, but there are some on this site."
To be honest, I actually haven't noticed any of those. I do know our resident troll has created some over-the-top conservative personas.

Don't know if this is helpful but the QUOTE BOX thingy is in Formatting Help under the add reply button.
share"Don't know if this is helpful"
Not particularly, since I'm fully aware of how it works, but don't always feel like typing out the brackets or taking the extra steps to copypaste them.
Sorry, unless the film or tv show in question was made after 2015, it doesn't count as "woke." Politically Correct, maybe, but not woke. If you look closer, those films you mentioned were (with some exceptions) better written, better acted, the story didn't insult the viewers' intelligence or ethnicity, and there wasn't a naked political message being smashed over your head in the story.
The Brandy Cinderella, for example, is not woke because a.) they were honest about the color-blind casting from the start, and had it include everyone, not just the main character, b.) it was a sweet, innocent, beautiful film with semi-decent acting and singing (and some humor thrown in), c.) it wasn't pushing a political message of any kind, d.) there were no gay characters at all, and e.) the prince stayed a prince and he actually married Cinderella in the end. You want a woke Cinderella, try that shitty one from Amazon.
Most of those "strong female" films you mentioned sucked, but at least the women in them didn't act like nasty, misandrist bitches, putting down men all the time to make themselves look good. Most still were fine being feminine and having boyfriends.
🤣THE JOKE HAS ARRIVED.
shareAs always you act like a bully.
She is much more smarter than you.
LMFAO🤣
DID YOU REALLY JUST TELL ME THAT WEIRD OLD INTOLERANT DUDE COSPLAYING AS A LADY IS SMART?....WOW...THAT IS TERRIBLE.
She expresses clear and reasoned opinions, making it possible to have a nice and polite discussion with her. Maybe apologize to her for your rude comment?
NO...HE SAID FULL STOP BULLSHIT THAT ONLY AN ASSHOLE WOULD AGREE WITH.😘
shareYou also need apologize to samoanjoes.
shareTHAT COMMENT RIGHT THERE...ILLUSTRATES JUST HOW OUT OF TOUCH YOU ARE.
share"out of touch" because you never apologize to anyone, no matter how bad you behave. You need to apologize to me also.
shareI APOLOGIZE ALL THE TIME...WHEN IT IS REQUIRED OR EARNED...PERHAPS ONE DAY,KIDDO.
shareYou so sensitive for people who called movies WOKE but you don't have problem with man who follow underage girl in Instagram. You asshole.
share[deleted]
I TOOK A BAN FOR A COMMENT VERY SIMILAR TO THIS ONE YOU JUST MADE...BE CAREFUL,BRO.
shareWe started threatening....
If I am going down, you going down with me punk, just read some of your comments at this discussion alone.
WHY ARE YOU ALWAYS SO AGGRESIVE?...INCORRECT THIS GO AROUND AS WELL.
shareYou keep bothering this poor female and called her a man. This is not appropriate behavior.
share[deleted]
There is a fine line between a movie having political elements and it going far enough to egregious.
AND there is a LOT of factors that go into whether or not that has occuried.
One can discuss where the line is, how far is too far, ect, ect. ect.
However, NONE of that, in any way impliles that there is not something real going on here, OR that it is NOT legitimate for anyone who dislikes it, to express their dislike and explain why, OR to react accordingly.
COLORED SKIN,QUEER MINDSETS,FEMALES.
SOMETHING REAL IS GOING ON...YEAH...THE MODERN WORLD.
1.) Politics in film did exist before 2015, but the Woke Era didn't start until 2015, and coincidentally, shitty, overly politically correct (AKA "woke") films started just one year later, starting with the 2016 all-female ghostbusters film.
2.) Politically correct means they put token minorities in film, or they put a strong, but original lead that isn't white and is likeable, unique (not stolen from a franchise with a well-established franchise that traditionally has a white lead), and the minority is not an obnoxious ass as the protagonist. A good example of this was the black chick in "Alien vs. Predator." "Blade" was another good one. The bad guy isn't always a white, straight male every single time. The men are not always idiots, wimpy little soyboys, or assholes. The writing is also better and makes you think, and has memorable lines.
3.) Oh...would you like to know what was woke in the new "Little Mermaid?" First they race-swapped Ariel, insulting all the fans who loved her for who she was. She didn't have to be black, but Hollyweird insisted because they now hate white redheads and just white people in general. The story is very poorly re-written, they gender-swap Scuttle and have the most annoying Asian woman in Hollyweird not only do Scuttle's voice, but a rap number that should be used to torture inmates at Guantanamo Bay prison, the prince's role is diminished so that he almost becomes unnecessary, Ariel is the one to kill Ursula instead of Eric, completely erasing making him useful in the story other than breaking her spell of silence, she's not even in love with him, she just wants to join the human world and use him as a tool, Ariel is not even told she has to kiss him, when Ursula made that very clear in the original film, the sea creatures representing Sebasian and Flounder look creepy, and she and the prince don't even get married at the end! How much many more flaws and politics do I have to point out to you? There's a reason the cartoon is superior to this trash.
The political message is pretty clear in this film: women rule, men suck and are almost useless (save when they are a means to an end), and love, marriage, and real happily ever afters have no place in this world.
No one cared about Ripley in the Alien movies because they weren't political and were not written to hate the male characters in the movie.
shareExactly
shareI SPIT ON YOUR GRAVE.
share" were not written to hate the male characters "
neither are the movies now , you just want to think they are.
If Alien came out now you'd be all
"Hey look at lt Gorman - they is showing us proud white man as incompetant pussy - This film hates white men!"
If Alien came out now you'd be all
"Hey look at lt Gorman - they is showing us proud white man as incompetant pussy - This film hates white men!"
I think what changed things is the Internet. More specifically, social media.
People used to (mostly) keep their opinions to themselves. But now, you can bitch on twitter, you can bitch on Facebook & so on & so forth
And then you have "journalists" & "content creators" riling people up with fake outrage.
not to mention trendy boycotts which have influenced billion dollar companies to alter it to the way the currency is blowing...
share^this^
sharewhy do we act like this is a new thing?
I think many people are just hypersensitive on both ends of the spectrum. I think a lot of people just enjoy bitching and complaining.
