shareBecome overconfident with a 4WD SUV on an icy road. I was returning home on the interstate from a nearby community on the official first day of spring one year when a freak ice storm had moved in during the hours I had been in that town. Up until that day, it had always been dependable for getting me through those wintry conditions. I had even pulled out others stuck in the snow with it, always carried a tow rope in the back end. I was driving below the posted speed limit, yet faster than the cars around me, thinking I had the advantage. Having passed that small cluster of cars, I suddenly found myself in a spin, doing several donuts in the middle of the interstate. It was during the last one that I became aware I was sliding towards the median, which was nothing more than a wide ditch between the opposing lanes and I felt sure I was about to roll down into it. Suddenly, my passenger side tires firmly gripped the gravel border of that median, bringing me to an immediate stop. I wound up in the opposite direction of travel, facing the vehicles I had just passed. I can only imagine the varied thoughts going through the minds of those people after having witnessed that. π«£ Luckily, none had been close enough to me to result in a collision while I was in spin out mode. It was another one of those experiences in my life where I felt, "Somebody up there likes me."
