What is something you did once and will never do again?
Eat seafood. 🌊 🦭

I got into a really good fishing hole for Carp. They were biting fast and I had the river chummed with canned corn, the Carp really go for the canned corn.
I had waders on so I ventured into the middle of the river, figuring to launch an attack mid stream. I had those fancy red Japanese steel hooks and a good spinning rod, it was a Shakespeare Ugli Stik and a damned fine reel.
Well, best laid plans…that river bed was mostly muck and the water was a bit faster than I figured! I nearly drown as that mud was sucking me down and I lost a wading boot on the way to the other side.
I lived, but I’ll never take a river lightly again.
Do you eat carp? I've heard it's good, but many people don't like it due to the bones.
shareNo, never ate one, around here they are often found in polluted, muddy waters. I just like the fight, then I toss them back. I’ve heard they are only average tasting at best. But buddy, on 8
pound line with an Ugly Stik rod and a Mitchell spinning reel with those expensive Japanese hooks, they’ll put up a hell of a tussle!
You can’t use too much hardware on the lines, the Carp are big smart fish, they seem to sense something is off if you use heavy lines and lead weights.
They are suckers for canned corn. Chum the water with canned corn and they can’t help themselves👍
Bass taste sort of muddy too, I’ve landed a few big boys and brought them home to the stove and the plate.
Bass sort of tastes like a pond smells.
Best tasting fish around here are the Yellow Perch, your various Trouts and the tiny Porgies but you’ll need a power boat to hunt down the Porgies, they live offshore and in deep water!
Long Island Sound is loaded with Porgies, it’s a nice tasting, flaky meat.
If you have a vegetable garden, carp would make an excellent natural fertilizer and as a plus, no legal limits due to their invasive nature, so you can catch as many as you'd like. I always bury my carcasses. Raspberries are doing great this year.
Are you talking about gamakatsu hooks? Made by a Japanese company and they're the only ones I use for striper. I have almost zero experience with fresh water fishing, so I'll take your word for the best ones.
In other fishing news, I'm a shore fisherman, but a family friend has offered to sell me a 14ft McKee craft with a 70hp Evrindue motor - - with trailer - - for a mere $500!! I feel like I've hit the lottery. I understand that's a small boat for the ocean, but I just wanted something to traverse the coast and anchor up in small coves and such. Also maybe the river that cuts through the peninsula here.
The first Pilgrims to America got taught the dead fishes in the field trick by the Indians, it appears to have worked!
Yeah, those Japanese Gamakatsu hooks are killers, sharper than anything we got over here!
Buddy, pounce on that boat!
Perfect for coastlines and coves. Nice craft, I’m jealous over here !
Trailer and engine too…DO IT👍
hello fellow fishermen! :)
carp is like No.1. choice for fishing and eating here in Hungary. it's considered dumb and easy to catch. but it's definitely not the best tasting fish, the meat is often very fatty. wels catfish and zander are probably the best that you can catch here.
but I'm more of a C&R guy myself
Took a cruise on Costa - never again.
