Name someone that you're a big fan of that gets slammed by the media.

Tom Cruise.

Britney Spears

reply

So you're saying the media is... *removes sunglasses*... Toxic?

reply

What the hell was that....So weird...Police report really, but I love her music.

reply

"Video shows Britney Spears inadvertently hit herself in the face in encounter with Victor Wembanyama".

reply

I think his head of security should be fired.

reply

howard stern

reply

I'm not a fan. I'm not an air conditioner either.

reply

Good answer!
🤭🤣

reply

I'll second that. Howard Stern.

reply

Gavin mcinnes

reply

I liked him at first, but I think eventually he went in the way of talking nonsense just for the YouTube views.

reply

Definitely.
Gotta go for the clicks.
But his advice on family and marriage helped me out a ton. And i still think back to it all the time.
And he's has great music taste , 90% of the time

reply

Tom Cruise was my first thought as well.

His odd religious stuff and some of his public behavior is pretty off-putting but he’s a big star to me onscreen.

Some shithead internet prankster sprayed him with water on a red carpet years ago and I admire the way he handled the situation.

He didn’t call for a beefy bodyguard, he didn’t immediately call for event security…He approached the guy and told him off to his face.

Tom Cruise comes off as a bit weird but he’s a big star and he’s no wimp.

reply

Tom is the definition of a movie star. The guy just wants to entertain.

Another person similar to him that I like who gets slammed by the media is Mel Gibson. I know you're a fan of his too. I think the criticism is deserved, but as an entertainer I think he's great.

reply

I’m not wild about everything Mel Gibson has notoriously said and he may be suffering from some addictions that may require serious help but he’s quite a director and a true movie icon.

He’s not a guy I’d want to meet but I sure do like his movies!

reply

Tom Green

reply

Stonekeeper would agree with you.

reply

Back in his days of doing freaky stuff in public me and a few friends would laugh to the point of pain at things like the mustard inspector, the slutmobile, department store intercom or the one where he goes up on stage at a stand up comedy club and just makes noises and screams to the point of being booed. So I say this as a fan: he gets press? Last I heard he married Drew Barrymore.

That police car WOOPWOOP at the end kills me. Reminded me of another goodie: the Canterbury Tales where he drags a bunch of meat around again in a dress. Legend.

reply

The Canterbury Tales is epic, no doubt. Familiar with this segment, btw? https://youtu.be/W6GVPOcnIMI

reply

Actually, that was new to me! Or perhaps just long forgotten?

For me the brilliance of the man lay in his audacity to do this stuff to and/or in front of “real people” who weren’t in on the joke and their reactions.

While it’s fun and funny to see people laughing at his antics, it’s way more funny to me to see people reacting negatively, like the audience members in the Jokers Wild comedy club looking uncomfortable, him being kicked out of stores for abusing their PA systems or his dad giving him the cold shoulder while waking to the bus stop because he refused to drive his awesome slutmobile to work. :D

reply

Yup, couldn't agree with you more. Been a fan since his show first aired on MTV in the 90's.
Freddy Got Fingered is without a doubt in my top 10 list of favorite comedy movies of all time. Really don't understand all the hate it gets. Goddamn hilarious, imo.

reply

Remembered another gem: when he is on crutches all bandaged up and keeps falling down in front of people. “Why are you filming this?!?!” :D

Horrible video quality and misnamed Jackass, but with: https://youtu.be/UVtrPIvDwwU

reply

Definitely a classic!

Seen this one, btw?
Comedy gold..

reply

So glad there are still segments like this I haven’t seen. “I don’t understand. Hello.”

Now off to watch the Theo Von/Bill Burr interview that apparently referenced this…

Just discovered Theo a month or so back. This was what sealed the deal: https://youtu.be/UIlNrYpuse0

reply

Wow! I never even knew they were married. A few years back I think Tom Green was living off the grid in a survivalist van of some sort.

reply

Yep they got married in 2001. Divorced in 2002, though

reply

Yeah I know he’s had a talk show and/or podcast or several over the years, but nothing has really grabbed me. I’ve definitely watched his appearances on Norm and Rogan and other shows though. Think he moved back to Canada, but still no idea about bad press.

reply

Mel Gibson. I know he's antisemitic, sort of rabidly Roman Catholic, probably has (big surprise) an alcohol problem and is a basic jingo, but I still, in spite of all that, am somewhat fond of the guy. He reminds me of my own family.

reply

The guy is a star. He's one of those guys where you have to separate the person from the entertainer.

reply

The best thing about crazy Mel is nothing he's said is wrong.

reply

I'm a fan of Gibson's too. Except for his Mad Max films, I actually prefer his work as a director than as an actor. I would love to see him get more directing jobs.

reply

Ann Coulter. And that's not because I agree with her. She's the world's greatest troll.

reply

J K Rowling.

reply

She said nothing wrong.

reply

No, she did not but they still attack her.

reply

Hell yeah!

The woman has literally given away billions of dollars, and the media demonizes her because she doesn't think biological males belong in women's prisons. She's right.

reply

She's also great at exposing the misogyny of trans 'women' and their groupies.

reply

I don't agree with what she's said but that's no reason to stop reading/watching Harry Potter.

reply

You don't agree that biological women and little girls should have their own 'safe spaces'?

reply

Actually I do agree with them having safe spaces. I have no problem with her funding Beira's Place. If cisgender women don't feel comfortable with transgender people being at the same service for sexual assault survivors, I'm not going to make any value judgements.

Nonetheless crime statistics tell us there is a much higher risk that transgender people will be victims, not perpetrators, of sexual assault. If there were an alternative support service for transgender sexual assault survivors, I would eat my hat if she accepted it. And as far as I'm concerned, her following quote is hate speech: "War is Peace. Freedom is Slavery. Ignorance is Strength. The Penised Individual Who Raped You Is a Woman."

Like I said in my last post, if reading and/or watching Harry Potter is your thing, enjoy.
