Ever been to a gay bar

What was it like?

reply

Accidentally (honest) went into a gay pub once with a mate. It was only a while after we bought our drinks and sat down that we noticed there were no females. At all. And it stayed that way. Then we started to put two and two together...

Did you wake up "sore" afterwards?

We left (after finishing our pints, naturally)!

reply

Yeppers. Like others have said, great music, and usually everyone is really friendly.

A lot I've been to are dingy and dirty, but a few high end ones are quite nice and all are usually very loud and a little crowded. As a straight woman, going to a gay bar used to be a refuge from harassment, but in recent years, they've kind of been infiltrated by straight men assuming they'll have an easier time picking up women because there's no competition, so that's been a deterrent from going in the past 2 years or so.

reply

That's interesting. Never thought of it like that.

reply

Yeah, no matter how crap the music or the bar was, and many are bad because they were a kind of underground thing for a long time, it was almost always a fun time until maybe Covid. Then straight men started to get a little desperate and a little entitled (I know, not all straight men).

reply

Once because I had to pee. :D There was karaoke inside, but otherwise it seemed a bit dull.

But a few times I've been to Magic Mirror @ Sziget Festival, which is kind of like an LMBTQ friendly stage/tent, and that's a great party! Everybody was dancing with everybody.

reply

Would anyone want to go to an unhappy bar?

reply

I was friends with a gay guy back in the early 90's. I went to a couple of clubs and bars with him. They were ok but I'm not a fan of the plastic music they like.

reply

A few times, nothing special. I just wanted to get drunk and no one bothered me.
