Favorite hotel you've stayed at?

Some of the Las Vegas resorts come to my mind: The Flamingo, Aria, The Cosmopolitan, The Venetian, The Palazzo, etc. I'd say my favorite of those is Aria.

Not saying where my absolute long-term favorite is, but for recent stays... Hilo Hawaiian Hotel in Hilo was lovely! I stayed there last winter, I had a corner room on a high floor, and one large window overlooked Hilo Bay, and the other onto Liliʻuokalani Gardens. The ocean and the luscious gardens were right outside the hotel door, where I could wander out of the elevator and into a tropical garden by the sea, and it was very reasonably priced. Google maps lists $133 a night right now, as it's still the off season.

Definitely recommended if you're ever in Hilo, Hawaii.

Turtle Bay Resort on the North Shore in Oahu - spectacular.

But the most memorable stay was when many years ago we did a bus tour of Europe and one night we stayed in a converted,(small), castle on a mountain in Trier, Germany. Some nights we had dinner included and this was one of those evenings. It just happened to be the first day of Lent and they served herring - yuck, yuck, yuck. Because of the remote location we didn't have any way to go somewhere else for dinner, so we went back to our room and opened a bottle of wine and ate a box of chocolates we had purchased during the day. Our room had a balcony, so we sat out there and it was magical with the lights of the city below.

The Sahara in Vegas, many years ago. I was a teenager at the time and pretty much overwhelmed by the experience.

Stayed at a pretty wild hotel in Peru. It was like really nice decades ago, but totally run down now. Gorgeous outside but the rooms were like concrete dungeons. It was like being in an Indiana Jones movie. It was really cool.

Besides the Disney Hotel in Disneyland Paris, the Avenida Palace in Lisbon. It was during the financial crisis, so this very fancy 5-star hotel was cheap as hell. It was more like a small apartment that we got for the same price as one room.

When I was young and traveling on extremely limited budgets, I was proud to rent the absolute cheapest room in Paris! Yup, a centrally located pension had one room that was probably a former janitor's closet, with a small bed that had about a foot of space around 2 edges of the bed. There was a sink at the foot of the bed, a bathroom down the hall, and just enough room left at one side of the bed to jam in my suitcase and climb into the bed. I was perfectly happy to spend a few days there, thrilled that my limited money was going to be spent on Parisian food and not unnecessary luxuries like enough room to walk around in or TVs playing French stuff.

A great hotel stay isn't about luxuries, it's about getting exactly what you need.

Motel 6. Most comfortable beds on the planet!

Ignorance is bliss.
You don't wanna know what germs are in them!

You're probably right, but when I'm on vacay, I don't give a rip about the "hotel experience". The last place I want to spend my time is a hotel room. Anyway, what doesn't kill you makes you stronger, right? 😁

Right!

And I can agree being a simple and a frugal man myself.
