What are your thoughts on Adam Sandler?

He's alright. I remember his 90s comedy movies like "Billy Madison" and "Happy Gilmore". A solid Jewish comedian.

Meh. A bit overrated IMO. While I did like Happy Gilmore, The Wedding Singer & The Waterboy he's kind of a one-note comedian at best. Always seems to play the same character in all his comedy films.

Thought he was hilarious when I was a kid, not so much when I was an adult.

I remember these songs being funny when I was a freshman in high school:

Same. I still enjoy his earlier comdies, he just doesn't make me laugh anymore

about to say the same thing

Most of his stuff is pretty low-brow, but I did like his "Bedtime Stories" movie.

reply

Pretty okay and generally likable actor who does dramatic roles well, but his whole angry/adorkable outcast who wins the heart of the babe schtick is terribly dated. Like Hubie Halloween belongs in the 90s.

Pretty much this.👇

Signed, million man.

reply

Funny. I do not watch the newer SNLs but his skits when he was on the show are usually funny.

reply

I can't stand him. The cutesy little boy voice is cringe.

His style is more Jewish slapstick comedy, like The Three Stooges. I prefer snarky Jewish humor.

reply

I LIKE THE MAN...A LOT...HIS 90'S COMEDY WERE ALL GOLD TO GUYS MY AGE...I STILL ENJOY THEM...HE WAS GOOD ON SNL AS WELL...HIS COMEDY ALBUMS WERE ALWAYS SOLID AND HE CAN SING FAIRLY WELL WHEN HE WANTS TOO...THE TRAGEDY OF THE SANDMAN IS TWO-FOLD...ONE...HE HAS SOME SERIOUS ACTING ABILITY...PUNCH DRUNK LOVE,FUNNY PEOPLE,UNCUT GEMS...BUT HE RARELY EXTENDS HIMSELF TO THESE DEEPER ROLES...TWO...NETFLIX...HIS DEAL WITH NETFLIX FATTENED HIS WALLET AND HIS ASS...MEDIOCRE FILMS THAT ARE INSTANTLY FORGOTTEN.

reply

I thought Uncut Gems really showed his chops as a dramatic actor. He maintained the goofy Sandler affability that so many of his fans enjoy but he also came off as a very desperate man who had painted himself into a corner and knew it.

A really fine performance by Sandler.

reply

WHICH IS WHY THE SECOND HALF OF HIS CAREER HAS BEEN FRUSTRATING...HE SO RARELY DIPS HIS TOE INTO THE MORE SERIOUS STUFF...OPTING INSTEAD TO HANG AROUND NETFLIX AND MAKE DISPOSABLE COMEDIES WITH HIS PALS.

reply

I agree with this.
The guy can nail a more dramatic role when called upon.
