City or country, and why or why not?

Grow up city for life. Now I'm tired of people and love the quiet country side.

Nothing wrong with either. It's all personal preference

You would have to pay me to live in a downtown area. I live just on the edge of the city limits, but I would much rather be outside of the outer belt, but still close to things I like, so not too far out in the country.

Can I go in between and say suburbs?

reply

No rules, just a basic curiosity

I am outside of any city or town limits but, and have been here around 25 years, but the negative elements of the city are quickly encroaching. My goal is within the next 5 years to move way out and to down size.

cities are getting tougher to live in in north america especially with the traffic. we just don't have the mass transit we see in other areas of the world and were never designed in such a way.

I'm into suburbs. I don't like cities because they're too crowded and artificial, (and often ugly). I like the country, but the problem is, you're often too far away from services such as medical care, groceries, or even neighbors.

The suburbs have the best of both worlds; they're more spread out to provide breathing room, they have all the services you need, but you also are closer to nature compared to the city. And if you want to go to either the city or the country, the suburbs are a stepping stone towards both. In fact, many suburbs act as "bedroom communities" for people working in big cities; sure there is a commute involved, but if you can get a cheaper home outside the city and just go there to work, why not?

Burbs. Convenient, quiet. Near a city, near the country, near an airport, near a beach, near the mountains but too near that you have to deal with noise, crime, lack of services, airplane noise, storms, floods, blizzards.

I grew up in the woods. Loved it as a kid. Resented it in my teens and early 20s as it was so far from where my friends lived. Now in my 40s I long for that solitude again.

Depends on the city, depends on the town.
