Is this really the best movie board on the internet?
There's so little traffic. Even some pretty big named actors and films get very little posts.
shareThere's so little traffic. Even some pretty big named actors and films get very little posts.
shareMovieChat has 10 times the volume of it's other IMDb board competitor.
share99% of the traffic are in the politics boards and politicians boards. And "totally-not-political" political posts in General Discussion.
And Elliot Page for some reasons.
Oh, and Princess Crazy Eyes.
Nope.
48 posts over the last hour on this site.
0 from the Politics board
1 from the Joe Biden board
2 from the John Oliver board
Why are you talking shit?
The more shits being talked the more traffic this site gets.
shareUtter bullshit! Saturating this board with stupid, idle, worthless shit talk has the complete opposite effect, that is, turning off and driving away quality newcomers. The only thing that shit talk accomplishes is to reinforce the cliquishness that exists, which also contributes to driving said newcomers away.
shareWoohoo! Bicker bicker! Squabble squabble!
shareSays the over posting attention whore who just has to respond to everything and anything with worthless shit talk. You inflame a lot of bickering here, blatant hypocrite.

sharePffft! Weak and meaningless response.
shareWe're here to talk about movies, dawg. It's all pretty worthless.
share"It's all pretty worthless."
What a negative, defeatist attitude. Why are you even here then?
It's not either of those things. This is a message board about movies. Do you expect to read a fine tuned piece of literature with every reply? Do you expect to find meaning in your life from posts on the boards for every movie here? It's movies. It's not that serious.
shareWell nobody has to read the shit stuff - including newbies.
shareFunny how shit talk threads seem to often gain the most traction though (which means they ARE being read), while quality topics quickly recede into the background and even come under attack. It's why we have attention whores and those who constantly whine about trolls and socks on the board.
shareA good amount of the shit stuff is FROM newbies. Thankfully, a lot of them don't last.

YES...IT IS...BY FAR...THE MORE TRAFFIC WE SUPPLY THE BETTER IT GETS.
shareWhat it lacks in traffic, it more than makes up in movie knowledge.
We have some extremely knowledgeable film buffs here, spanning all genres and time periods.
Sometimes traffic less is better, your posts won't get lost, like tears in the rain.
On IMDb I didn't post on any of the generalized boards, whether under Trivia, Awards Season, Film Talk, TV Talk, Shop Talk, Genre Zone, Around the World, Star Talk, Music, Technology, General Boards. I only posted on specific movies, tv shows, actors or actresses.
Here, it is the other way around, I post hardly at all on specific boards, instead 99% of what I post is on General Discussion.
Yes, I miss the activity on specific boards, in my case, Seinfeld and Upstairs, Downstairs, but others as well. But what can you do?
The same. I was only active in IMDb in a single board, Ex Machina (2014.) It had so much traffic we can have endless discussions just on one movie.
shareIt'd be nice to have that level of dialogue again.
But this is the way it is now. Lots of drivel, spam, and bot-posting.
Part of me dies inside whenever I click on a new thread, and it's just someone saying "I like this movie".
Probably. I liked the IMDb forums better though, because there was so much more traffic.
There are some things about this site that are better than the old IMDb forums though, such as the "Trending" section at the top of the main page, as well as the "Latest Posts" board. That at least makes the most out of what little traffic they get here. On IMDb, if you posted on a specific movie or TV show board, only people going to that specific board would ever see it, and if it was a low-to-no traffic board, it could go a long time without ever being seen. On this site, any post you make shows up in the Trending section on the main page and the Latest Posts board no matter how obscure the movie or TV show is.
I really miss the IMDB boards. My heart still hurts.
shareRemember that everytime you buy something off Amazon.
shareI believe it was February 17th 2017 when the boards closed, we were told a week or two in advance. We still don't know the main reason although it was highly likely to do with social media and the political climate, it was not long after the inauguration which probably played a part in it.
shareActually if I remember correctly, we were told months in advanced. I have a certain memory because I started using imdb and looking at the message boards shortly before it shut down. I was upset knowing that they were drawing to a close each day that I would check. Everyone wanted to bring the imdb boards back, but to no avail.
I'm not sure if a specific reason was ever given to the reason the boards were shut down, but it did seem to be a lot more civil back then. Sure, it still had trolls, maybe it was even full of them, but the people that brought up really good discussions and asked genuine questions about movies make up for those that would make me "mad." not even really mad but the ones that are enjoyable to converse with make it worthwhile.
Yes me too haha. I really wish there was a way to recover the posts from that time. There was a guy on the Sopranos forum that did an elaborate critique of each episode and was really wanting to read it again. And there was much more traffic. You could count on posts being replied to fairly quickly even in more obscure movie and actor's forums I think. I really don't know why it got shut... cuz people being sensitive I'm guessing?

There's very little traffic on any of the IMDb substitutes. Unfortunately, the IMDb community was scattered to the four winds, so nothing comes anywhere close to replicating what was lost.
As I always say when this topic comes up, I know for a fact that, behind the scenes, Letterboxd has toyed with the idea of introducing a feature that's a lot like message board forums. On and off, they've been mulling it over for years. They have a sizeable, film-focused community. It could work. But they don't seem to have yet conjured a way to implement it that makes financial or reputational sense for them, so it may never happen.
In the meantime, this kind of thing is unfortunately the best we've got.
As someone who is here for one more week until I'm out of Facebook jail for posting a video game strategy on a video game page and it was called "inciting violence" this whole page completely sucks and they don't even talk about any current politics and stories going on on any given day They just all harp on Jan. 6th
shareWe will not miss you.
