Have you ever played in person Dungeons and Dragons?
I played for less than two years years ago but I was never the dungeon master. I could never do what the Dungeon Master does in a play session. It seemed so complicated.

shareWhen I was about 10, yes.
shareI tried it a few times. I thought it was kind of silly and didn’t like being restricted to just good or evil character wise. I didn’t last very long playing it.
shareI started playing in the 10th grade around 1980/1981. The game we played was called Advanced Dungeons & Dragons because it was a more sophisticated version of the original Dungeons & Dragons. But they eventually got rid of the name. I haven’t played in a really long time.
shareStrangely yes. My ex husband and his 2 brothers were pretty into it. I played a few times when we first got married.
But Magic the Gathering is a better game:)
Oh yes, for many years, it was great nerdy fun!
We had pewter figurines that we hand painted with modeling paints, big maps we drew up, ship and wagon models and cardboard walls to set up the quests…we rotated the Dungeon Master role but I was frequently DM because I could tell a story and keep the campaigners on their toes. We were big geeks in Middle School and I’d be a liar if I said I wouldn’t try it again now.
I still have a couple dozen quest modules, all of my hardcover Dungeon Master guides and a shoebox full of dice and tiny pewter figures👍
WOW...I WOULD SELL THE SHIT OUT OF YOUR NERD NERDAPHERNALIA.😘
shareMiniatures! I still have some and those d and d rule books and monstrous compendium. DragonLance, Ravenloft, etc...
shareOops, double post🙄
Anyway, ETA: there is a very entertaining board game called Axis and Allies that can be played through in a few hours with a few other people. It’s WWII based and takes about 20 minutes to set up the board but it’s lots of fun to play.
I used to see that game all the time and was fascinated but never bought it. I have played Risk which can get dull.
shareIt’s pretty similar to RISK , but a lot more detailed. It takes longer to learn the various rules but it’s more fun and exciting than Risk imo. You can spend on weapon development for instance, I always bought long range Bomber Planes…always. You can really knock the opponent out by jacking up their factories with two or three rounds of air raids.
Did anyone make the game more err adult?
shareI remember a module in the A series, I’m thinking A2 Secret of the Slaver’s Stockade that included a pretty big town. There was a whore house where under one of the beds was one of the entrances to the catacombs. As DM, I made sure the party discovered that entrance to have some fun at the house of ill repute.
Of course all lawful good characters would never take part in such activities.
Was that all role play? I've heard stories where people actually do the things for real.
shareI played Axis and Allies and other more sophisticated war games like Panzer Leader and 2nd Fleet with my brother. I only played Dungeons and Dragons for like two years but I sometimes read up on it nowadays with the internet and all. The thing is I thought the 80s artwork was better nowadays a lot of the stuff looks like it belongs in horror while in years past it had interesting designs.
