Peter Sellers

reply

Wow, this really caught me by surprise! I never knew this about him.

reply

Yes before he became the famous Peter Sellers he was a drummer. And Dudley Moore was an accomplished pianist, mostly jazz but he also played classical on occasions.

reply

Neil Peart.

reply

Impressive! Yeah, it would take a helluva drummer to handle those huge, built-up kits of his.

reply

Yanic Bercier

reply

Thanks for this. Damn, what a beautiful drum set!

reply

I should have mentioned Yanic plays fast heavy metal. not everyones taste.

i'll put out there Golden Earring's Cesar Zuiderwijk
dude looks insane and intense, at one point he just bites a cymbal in that 84 video.
both videos have unique gimmicks.

1984 Radar Love: https://youtu.be/rYtI3j52Nnw?t=251
2015 drum solo: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z23GqZkKkEs

reply

In that '84 clip he looks like he needs medical attention.

reply

Vinny Paul

I've never been a fan of heavy metal but I'm objective enough to concede that all drummers are driven by a passion, an intensity. This one, another favorite of mine, seems to have a similar style to your submission: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0x6chChxzV0

Not far off metal that song , a bit of crunchy distortion and it's there . Pantera were one of the pioneers of groove metal and your boys Grand funk railroad had groove in spades judging by that song you linked .

reply

Yeah, I always saw them as pioneers during my 'rocker' years. They had a great sound for a band comprised of just three guys and they were very popular.

reply

Carl Palmer
Neil Peart
Nick Mason
Damon Che
Peter Prescott
Brendan Canty

and, of course, Gene Palma... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hhwNxlD7l2Y

reply

These two top my list.

reply

I agree. Both have been mentioned earlier in this thread and like I said, I'm a "dinosaur" when it comes to this topic. ;) Great video, btw.

reply

Here's another person and she's no slouch, either.

reply

Wow, another surprise featuring someone I had no idea was a good drummer!

reply

By the way, I'm a dinosaur, too. 😉 Even though its heyday was before my time, I like big band music the best, as well as many of the vocalists of that era. I enjoy some pop music artists from the 50s, 60s, and 70s, but never really liked classic rock or heavy metal.

reply

Well GE, some 50s, 60s, and 70s music would be considered as classic rock.

reply

I know, but I'm more Carpenters than Led Zeppelin.

reply

During those Classic Rock days, GE... it wasn't at all unusual to find LPs of both, side by side, in my music collection. ;)
