Check out Men (2022). I watched it earlier today and here's my review:
Directed by Alex Garland, Men stars Jessie Buckley as a woman in the English countryside dealing with past tragedy. This is the definition of a slow burn and is the type of film where the mood and the vibes take precedent over the story. Men is a strange film, but an interesting and compelling one. The cinematography is beautiful and the score is eerie and effective. Jessie Buckley's performance is very good and the film has some fantastic, striking, unusual imagery and bizarre moments. I'm not sure what the point of Men is though and what the director is or isn't trying to say. I can see people loving or hating Men and I can get that. For me, Men is worthwhile, challenging and one of the best films of the year. My rating is an 8/10.
The three films in the Adventures box set (Adventures of a Taxi Driver, Private Eye, Plumber's Mate) are stupid, but have some fun moments. If you like 70s British sex comedies, then you might get a cheap thrill out of them. Lots of nudity and dirty jokes.
I haven't watched Amazon Women on the Moon (1987) yet. It's a spoof of late night tv and low budget sci-fi films with several segments directed by different directors, including Joe Dante and John Landis. It's got an interesting large cast including Steve Allen, Rosanna Arquette, Ed Begley Jr, Carrie Fisher, Steve Guttenberg, Arsenio Hall, Phil Hartman, and Michelle Pfeiffer.
Yes, it also has Raquel Welch, Ernest Borgnine, Rex Harrison, George C Scott and Charlton Heston. The blu ray includes an audio commentary with 3 film historians, an interview with actor Mark Lester and the longer international cut of the film.
I went to the mall and bought 5 Kino blu rays. I got:
Don't Drink the Water (1969)
Little Man, What Now? (1934)
Maria Montez and John Hall Collection (includes White Savage, Gypsy Wildcat, Sudan)
Next Time We Love (1936)
Tarantulas: The Deadly Cargo (1977)
Love Everything Everywhere All at Once. Best film of the year for me. I'm not a big fan of Law Abiding Citizen. I want to see The Black Phone. I haven't seen Sleepers.
