Ever been to a place where a movie was set?

Regardless of where the movie was actually filmed, have you ever been to a place where a film was set? Where was it and how did it compare to the movie?

I saw "Picnic at Hanging Rock" at Hanging Rock. The place has a sinister vibe about it. They showed the film on the back of a flat bed truck. There were some girls in the audience who were dressed in period costume. At the end of the film they decided or perhaps it was coincidence that they would walk out from the trees behind the truck.

Girls dressed in white appearing out of the darkness! Quite eerie and yet wonderfully cheesy.

Key Largo (Key Largo (1948)) - didn’t look like movie

Harvard U (Love Story (1970), Good Will Hunting (1997), The Social Network (2010)) - looked like those movies.

Boston Public Library, Copley Square - (Spotlight (2015)) - love the scene where Rachel McAdams is in there. Used to study there. Nostalgia.

Mystic Pizza - (Mystic Pizza (1988))) Pizza was good there but nothing extraordinary.

UC Berkeley (The Graduate (1967)) - looks just like those scenes where Benjamin stalks Elaine.

Tottenham Court Road Tube Station (An American Werewolf in London (1981)) - yes!!! Very spooky place. Got a little freaked out in the tunnels.

Times Square (Midnight Cowboy (1969)) - It looked like it did in the film (seedy, sketch) until mid ‘80s.

Empire State Building (King Kong (1933, 2005) - iconic.

Tiffany’s NYC (Breakfast at Tiffany’s (1961)) - not impressed. Just a big store.

Mackinac Island (Somewhere in Time (1980)) - the big hotel is from that era, but it was flooded with tourists in shorts and flip flops so the romance of the film was hard to imagine.

The garden's at Schönbrunn Palace in Vienna which were in Immortal Beloved.

Salzburg was full of places from The Sound of Music. The only place I really went was the graveyard. Unfortunately they couldn't hide behind the tombstones as there wasn't enough room.

The Charles Bridge in Prague. It's been in a lot of movies.

The Millennium Bridge in London from Harry Potter

Oh yeah I've been to that yellow place too. Also King's Cross station in London, where some of Harry Potter was filmed.

Oh yeah, I've been to King's Cross as well. I'm trying to remember places that were set where they were filmed, vs places they were filmed but not set. Haha

The film Lucas (1986) was filmed in my hometown. We lived just a block from the high school used. My dad actually graduated from that school. A few years before my dad died we made a road trip and stopped there. The trip was just after the school year ended and the building was still open. We got to walk through it. Sure brought back a lot of memories for him.

Several Times:
I was in Troy New York when Age of Innocence was being filmed. Actually walked on the set.
I live just a few miles from where Clerks was filmed and have been in several of the locations.

Don't think it counts but as a kid I used to deliver to Carlos Bakery where Cake Boss was set. When I brought my family there as an adult, no one remembered me but I got quite a few stares from people when I could describe the back rooms to a tee.

Growing up in NYC--sure.

But I've only encountered a movie in the process of being shot a couple (or three) times, and let me tell you, movie crews are some of the most arrogant people you will ever encounter.
