What are some super popular films that you just don't care for?

You either hate them, think they're just fine or you just don't get what the big deal is. Here's a couple for me:

Back to Future (1985) - Or basically the entire trilogy. The thing is, I don't even dislike 'em, I think they're fine. I just never got they hype for them. Maybe if I grew up in the era I would've gotten it? I don't know.

Naightmare on Elm Street films: Maybe it's because I don't care for Slashers that much but those films in particular just never appealed to me.

Argo (2012) - It's been almost a decade & I still have no freaking idea what the big deal was with this film. Best picture, really? This one? Oh well...

Forrest Gump (1994) - Another one that I think is ok but still don't get what the big deal is with the film. Gary Sinise is pretty good though.

What are some films that YOU think are maybe a bit overrated or overhyped? Again, it's all about personal preferences

Any of the Indiana Jones stuff. I'm just not that into the overly contrived escapist "good guy vs bad guys" drivel. I caught a hell of a lot of flak for not liking that stuff.

Ghostbusters. Another case of catching flak from mouth breathing dolts for not caring for something that was all the rage at the time. It wasn't about me being an iconoclast: I just didn't get the hype.

Star Wars. I didn't dislike it, but caught hell for not going apesh*t about it when it was de-rigueur to do so.

Batman movies

Pearl Harbor/Titanic: In a class of utter schlock all its own.

DID YOU JUST SAY THAT PEOPLE WHO LIKE GHOSTBUSTERS(ONE OF THE FINEST COMEDIES EVER FILMED) ARE MOUTH BREATHING DOLTS?🤨

reply

I'm saying people are mouth breathing dolts for demanding I "like" something just because it is well known and in play.

THE SMALL PERCENTAGE OF GHOSTBUSTERS FANS WHO CANNOT ACCEPT THAT SOMEONE MIGHT NOT LIKE IT?

OK

These big franchises have always left me cold

Star Wars
Indiana Jones (except The Last Crusade)
Mission Impossible
Fast and Furious
Transformers
Back to the Future
Die Hard

I JUST got done watching "Meet the Fockers" (the 2nd one)...hated the movie when I first rented it on DVD and still awful now.

Although, it is a bit better than I remember.

Fast & Furious
Harry Potter
Toy Story

But maybe I'm a fraud since I didn't really watch most of the films from those franchises.

Taxi Driver, Raging Bull, Cape Fear (remake) - didn't much like them, Cape Fear felt laughably bad, the Gregory Peck version is so much better

Harry Potter - I've only seen the first one and that was enough for me

Jackson's Lord of the Rings - CGI overkill, bad casting sink this trilogy, I have even tried watching it again and I can't get more than 20 minutes in

Back to the Future - I like this film, I own it, I think it is fun, but a lot of people treat this film like it is an unassailable masterpiece

Titanic - I could pick just about any DiCaprio film but this is the film where people went nuts over him and I still don't get it, he is not a strong actor, Winslet was much better and to me the only reason to watch this film is the superb technical job Cameron did in depicting the sinking. And Horner's score.

A Clockwork Orange - other than the opening shot, this film was one disappointing scene after another, particularly having read the Burgess novel

Full Metal Jacket - another Kubrick misfire, the opening act in boot camp is not bad at all but once they graduate from there it loses any momentum it had, poor casting overall

Apocalypse Now - a fine film but it wasn't the great masterpiece I expected

I agree about Forrest Gump. A charming story, yes, but I couldn't sit through it a second time.

Who Framed Roger Rabbit? Another film that was all the rage when it was first released. Somewhat technically impressive, but the storyline was boring. I would consider it torture to have to watch this again.

Not for nothing, but “hyped” is illiterate for “hyperbole,” which means “exaggerated.” How can something be “over over-rated,” as in “overhyped.”

Words really matter. Respect them.
