Shows you were into when you were a kid

Like what are some of the first shows that you got into growing up? Grew up towards the end of the 90s. Here are some of my firsts

1. The adventures of Sinbad (1996) - This was my first actual tv show. My friends & I were obsessed with it. We looked up to Sinbad. He was our Hero. We wanted to be him.

2. Conan the adventurer (1997) - I don't remember this one THAT much. I have vague memories of it

3. WWE (Back when it was called WWF) - My grandma & I absolutely loved watching it. It was entertaining as hell. The Rock, Stone Cold, Hulk Hogan, Kane, Triple H, The Undertaker & countless others. What an era of wrestling!

4. Mortal Kombat Conquest (1997) - This show got me into Mortal Kombat. Another show that my friends & I really loved.

5. Walker, Texas Ranger (1993) - From that awesome theme song to the action, loved this show as a kid.

6. Martial Law (1998) - We watched this one as a family. It was awesome.

7. Superman: The Animated series (1996) - This show is the main reason I'm such a HUGE Superman fanboy. I'm one of the few people who prefers him over Batman. And this show is why.

8. Batman Beyond (1999) - Rewatched it recently during the lockdowns & was genuinely amazed at how well it holds up & it's honestly pretty mature for a 'kids show'

9. Justice League animated series (2001) - This one was my jam! This show made me fall in love with DC. So fantastic!

10. Charmed (1998) - I don't know how well this one holds up but I absolutely loved it growing up.

From mid 60s to early 70s (age 5 - 11), so we're talking many of the classic sitcoms of the day, from Bewitched to The Munsters, from The Brady Bunch to Get Smart, from The Addams family to All in the Family. Also Adam West Batman, Original Star Trek, Perry Mason, ABC Wide World of Sports. Reruns of George Reeves Superman, The Honeymooners, and I Love Lucy. In terms of children's programming, Wonderama, Bozo the clown, The Little Rascals (Our Gang) and NYC had a couple of programs showing Popeye hosted by Capt. Jack McCarthy (spoiler: he wasn't really a Captain), and The Three Stooges hosted by Officer Joe Bolton (spoiler: he wasn't really a cop).

There's a considerable amount of overlap between our lists, although I never got into the Little Bastards ... err, Rascals ... and we didn't have Perry Mason or Superman reruns here. But I suspect Gilligan's Island reruns were syndicated just about everywhere. There's a rumor that in the latter Apollo missions, when they were able to transmit high quality video from the Moon, the lunar television transmitter was put into an automatic mode after the astronauts' departure, broadcasting an endless loop of Gilligan episodes.

Some dumb people where confused because they thought Jim McKay was referring to marathon runners, not ski jumpers.

The man's name was Vinko Bogataj, and he was representing Yugoslavia when he had that wipeout. It looks horrible but he walked away from it with nothing more than trivial injuries, if any. Being behind the Iron Curtain, he didn't find out until much later that he had been a celebrity in the United States for years, even if few knew his name.

reply

You got the joke?....

The agony of da feet

reply

Oh wow ... I should have got that but it went right by me.

reply

Nothing was cooler than Dukes of Hazzard.

reply

Scooby Doo was my jam manđź‘Ť

And I'd still be watching it if it weren't for those nosy kids!

reply

Especially the early episodes. When Scrappy Do came around it all started going down hill.

reply

Yeah, new characters on big shows were usually a coffin nail

I recall some nerdy kid called Oliver came along and totally derailed The Brady Bunch

Goddamit Oliver!! You suck dude

reply

Or Sam on Different Strokes. He used to always say “Well golly Mr D!”

reply

Scrappy Doo was the absolute worst!

reply

Yep, I did kind of like Scooby Dumb, the gray colored uncle though.

reply

I vaguely remember him. Btw, What's your favorite iteration of the show?

reply

I really only watched the original Cartoons.

reply

Omg, I forgot to include Scooby Doo!

"Scooby Doo, Where are You!" was like on repeat on Cartoon Network. I watched that show an unhealthy amounts of times growing up.

the beverly hilbillies

I've heard Norm Macdonald boast that he can answer any trivia question about the Beverly Hillbillies, but I haven't heard anyone offer a serious challenge. Here's a comment

Hell yeah, all of these are great, but especially AYAOTD. So underrated.

Remembered one more, Mr Bean. It was absolutely wonderful. As an adult, the laugh tracks really annoy me but the show amazingly holds up. The humor is timeless!
