Were you into video games growing up? If so, which ones?

Growing up, There weren't any arcades around our area. So we'd just play outside all day. With marbles & stuff. For a time, we were kinda obsessed with cards. We were basically gambling cause we'd use cigarette packets as "money". Not the actual cigarettes, just the unfolded packet/paper. It was fun

Anyways, I didn't get my first console till I was around 12-13 years. It was the Nintendo 64. I had Star Wars: Shadows of the Empire, FIFA World Cup '98, Golden Eye, Mario Golf & 2 others that I can't recall

I was obsessed with Golden Eye. As an adult, I don't really care for first person shooter games but back then, I could not put down that game. Would play it for hours & hours. One of the best games I've played in my lifetime

I grew up in the first gen Nintendo generation. Lived in the middle of nowhere. No friends, no arcades (never even been in one to this day.) All there was to do was play Super Mario and Zelda and what not. I freakin' loved it. Loved the Super Nintendo too. But pretty much hated every gaming system that came out after that, and how realistic games got. My ultra passion was all those wonderful RPGs like Dragon Warrior, Final Fantasy, the Ultima series. That stuff.

Yes, though my brother's a bigger enthusiast than I am. When we were kids, I'd spend more time watching him play consoles that weren't the PC than playing them myself. I'll never forget those fun times when he'd use our old Atari console to play things like Dungeons and Dragons, Utopia, and all those other games with giant pixels, hehehe.

When he got his first playstation, I watched him play a very early version of "Legend of Zelda." We're talking one where all the characters were short and silly-looking, and the music was very distinct.

I was (and still am) more a fan of PC games. The earliest games I remember watching dad and my brother play were "Wolfenstein," "Oregon Trail," "Amazon Trail," "SimAnt," and a lunar lander game.

I myself would play stuff like "Magic School Bus," "Storybook Weaver," the Mahjong game that came with my computer, Tetris, The Sims, The Sims 2, things like that. Around the time I was finishing up high school, I was introduced to city-building games, which are a ton of fun. Started with "Zeus: Master of Olympus" and continued with its expansion, "Poseidon: Master of Atlantis." I attempted to play the Roman game and Cleopatra, but they stank. I loved "Emperor: Rise of the Middle Kingdom," "Children of the Nile," "Black and White 2," "Black and White 2: Battle of the Gods," and a few others. I also found Veterinarian games to be fun, though they're made more for kids than someone who is serious about the profession.

My brother introduced me to MMO's in the late 2000s, so I became a fan of 3rd-person games. I played "Pirates of the Caribbean Online," (I still am sad that it no longer exists), "Nine Dragons," "Perfect World," and "Star Trek Online," and "Star Wars the Old Republic," (the last two I still play). Eventually dad and my brother introduced me to the Mass Effect Trilogy. I don't mind playing the first two over and over again, but the third one bothers me a lot. Am also a fan of "Mass Effect Andromeda."

I really liked chrono trigger, final fantasy 6,7 8,9. But droped out after they added voices in those rpg style games

Metal gear solid was great too but lost me after 4 witch i thought was more cinema than game.

The most recent that i played were fallout 3 and the last of us both i enjoyed quite a bit.

Now i just usually play old snes sega roms with my kid on an old laptop. Mega man , mario , sonic. Kid friendly stuff. We also play marvel vs capcom 2 every so often.

Yeah, I don't game as much as I'd like. I mostly play Brawlhalla with my lil siblings.

And maybe some Fifa

I grew up in the 90's and we only played on PC. At home we weren't allowed to play "violent games". A few that we enjoyed:
on DOS:
- Prince of Persia
- Stunts

on Windows:
- FIFA (from WC '98 to 2015)
- Need For Speed, Sega Rally, Re-Volt, F1 2000, etc.
- Star Wars (Podracer & The Phantom Menace /Action-adventure/)
- Neverhood
- Worms
- Age of Empires
- Syberia
- Lego Indiana Jones
- Oddworld: Abe's Oddysee
- Tekken, Mortal Combat
- Virtual Deep Sea Fishing
- Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 2 & 3

Need for Speed: Underground was my jam back in the day.

And Sands of Time is STILL my favorite Prince of Persia game.

reply

I meant the 1989 version by Broderbund.

NFS Underground was really cool, with the custom cars; I also remember playing with: Porsche Unleashed, Hot Pursuit 2, Underground 2.

reply

I have vague memories of playing the OG Persia game.

I've played Sands an "unhealthy amounts of times" though.

I just purchased a month ago, a brand new Table Top Arcade Machine with 3000 Games built in including all the 80's Games like PAC-MAN, MS. PAC MAN, ASTEROIDS, ASTEROIDS DELUXE, MISSILE COMMAND, JOUST, DONKEY KONG etc.. I paid $1200.00 for it at an Arcade Warehouse that sells them along with Pinball Machines and Foos ball and shuffleboard... Well worth it.. It also has pretty much every version of STREET FIGHTER you can think of.. It also has every SEGA Game as well.. I'm currently enjoying ROAD RASH II from SEGA..

The first video game I got hooked on was Karate Champ VS (arcade) in 1984 when I was 9. Then Punch-Out (arcade), also in 1984, and that's still one of my all-time favorite arcade games.

The next major one was Super Punch-Out (arcade) in 1987, and that's still my all-time favorite arcade game, and I've owned a Super Punch-Out arcade machine since 2005. I played it just about every day for about 2 years, and had the high score on it for most of that time. My only competition was Lawton, a kid who was a grade ahead of me who had the seemingly insurmountable high score when I first started playing. It was big news at school the day after I beat his high score, and he even came up to me outside before school started and gave me a shove, saying repeatedly, "You beat my score!" He had three of his druggy friends with him too. Here's a picture of them:

Lawton is the one with blonde hair, third from the left.

So that was tense, but nothing came of it; Lawton was just messing around. He never got his high score back either, though he came close. When they removed the machine to make room for a new one, I had about 375,000 points and Lawton had about 350,000. These days I can beat my childhood high score with my eyes closed. My highest score is 3,326,430.

The next (and last) major one was Street Fighter II in the early 1990s when it was a new game and all the rage. I have an SFII arcade machine now too.
