Most shocking celebrity deaths?
I would say Michael Jackson. It came out of nowhere especially with his sold-out tour. Oh, and Aaliyah with the plane crash back in 2001 (a mere few weeks before 9/11). Also, John Ritter back in 2003.

shareIf by "shocking" you mean the one that bothered me personally, probably Bob Crane. I hadn't yet learned to distinguish between celebrities' personalities and those of the characters they portrayed, thought of him as being like the affable, wisecracking Colonel Hogan, and thought, "why would anyone want to kill that guy?" Plus the thought that someone could sneak into your residence and smash your skull while you were asleep was creepy.
For shocking circumstances, I think few if any could top Albert Dekker. Autoerotic asphyxia. Here are the details. Don't look unless you're comfortable with NC-17 material. When they found him ...
He was kneeling nude in the bathtub. A noose was around his neck but not tight enough to have strangled him. A scarf was tied over his eyes and a horse’s bit was in his mouth, fashioned from a rubber ball and metal wire, the bit had chain “reins” that were tightly tied beneath his head. Two leather straps were stretched between the leather belts that girded his neck and chest. A third belt, around his waist, was tied with a rope that stretched to his ankles, where it had been tied in some kind of timber hitch. The end of the rope, which continued up his side, wrapped around his wrist several times and was held in Dekker’s hand. Handcuffs clamped both wrists with a key attached. Written in red lipstick on his right buttock was the word, “whip.” Sunrays had also been drawn around his nipples. “Make me suck,” was written on his throat, and “slave,” and “cocksucker,” on his chest. On his stomach was drawn a vagina. He had apparently been dead for several days.

I had never heard of Albert Dekker until hearing the story in a college psychology class. The guy who wrote that description got it right.
Yes, Bob Crane who was killed by his friend John Carpenter (not the director). Because Bob wanted to cut him out of his life, as the two were partners in picking up chicks and videotaping them.
shareI remember where I was when I heard about Bob Crane’s death. Didn’t they make a film about 20 years ago with Greg Kinnear playing Crane called AutoFocus?

Yep. Also had Rita Wilson and Willem Dafoe. A good movie, but not to be watched unless you're comfortable with lots of nudity. I thought Kinnear gave a very good performance which was underrated by many. At the start of the film Crane was a normal enough guy, in a good marriage and who loved his children and was loved in return. Then his descent into his sex addiction began, and changes happen. There's a scene later on where he drops in to say hello to his son at college, and by that time it seems he's had every other aspect of his personality bleached out of him by years of constant sex, so much so that when he tries to have a normal conversation with his son he can't -- he can only make clumsy remarks and repeatedly say, "So! How ya doing?"
Princess Diana.
Bruce Lee.
I was a little kid when Jon-Erik Hexum died on the set of the show Cover Up. I was a fan of his and the show so I was saddened when he died. He was joking around on the set when he shot himself in the head with a gun loaded with blanks. He didn't realize that a close-range shot from blanks could cause great harm.
shareI wasn’t a huge fan of his but his death bummed me out at the time. Probably because he was so young. I think he was about 28 at the time, I was 18. I remember when he was declared brain dead and when his family donated his heart to another patient.
shareMichael Jackson and Carrie Fischer.
shareYes, Michael Jackson especially. I mean the most famous performer in the world. He left behind his "wife", aka that kid in the Leaving Neverland show. As Babs said "his sexual needs were his sexual needs".
Another is Kobe Bryant: why would anyone fly in a helicopter that didn't absolutely have to!
Carrie Fisher was 60 and in bad shape after a lifetime of drug use. And more recently shock therapy by her psychiatric controllers. But not too many knew all that about her. And then her mother Debbie Reynolds died just one day later saying she wanted to be with Carrie.
No one mentioned Ryan Dunn yet.
shareAnthony Bourdain I don't think there was a single person who saw that coming.
shareTrue. I mean I wasn't a fan, but he had that travel show and such. I think his girlfriend Asia Argento had something to do with it, as she jumped on the Me Too bandwagon and told every male at the Cannes Film Festival they were rapists. And she said she was "raped" by Harvey Weinstein. I.e. she blew him for a part and regrets it.
shareJohn Lennon. Amy Winehouse was expected, but still a terrible thing.
