I would say Michael Jackson. It came out of nowhere especially with his sold-out tour. Oh, and Aaliyah with the plane crash back in 2001 (a mere few weeks before 9/11). Also, John Ritter back in 2003.

The FEELS in this thread are many and very real.

The biggest one that surprised me was Robin Williams.
When I was a kid Elvis' death shocked me.
Recently, Eddie Van Halen's death shocked me.

Aaliyah's death in the 90s surprised me . I was just getting into her music a bit.
I recently watched her and Jet Li in Romeo Must Die. She and Li were great.

OH yeah, one more.
I have always loved the Eagles rock/pop/country bad.
Glenn Frey died on January 18, 2016.
Seems like yesterday.
