🚢 The Love Boat and Fantasy Island

I classify these as cheesy shows, but the one thing I liked about them is you got to see actors who, at the time, didn't have a regular TV gig, but also that they got to play other characters.

That is all. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I REMEMBER WATCHING THE LOVE BOAT WITH MY GRANDMOTHER IN THE 80S...I HONESTLY DONT THINK I HAVE EVER SEEN AN EPISODE OF FANTASY ISLAND.🤔

reply

Well, Fantasy Island is on Tubi TV now. Yes, I've seen both but they're certainly not high drama. They're like TV junk food.

TV TIME WITH GRANDMA WAS LOVEBOAT,THE NEWS,GAME SHOWS...TV TIME WITH GRANDPA WAS THE A-TEAM,COMBAT,ANYTHING WESTERN OR WWII(HE WAS A VET & POW)...I SPENT EVERY AFTERNOON AND THE WHOLE WEEKEND WITH THEM THROUGHOUT THE 80S...GRANDPA DIED IN 94 AND I MOVED IN WITH GRANDMA...I STILL LIVE HERE...I INHERETED THE HOUSE WHEN SHE DIED A FEW YEARS AGO....I MISS SILLY TV SHOWS AND LAZY AFTERNOONS.

Fantasy Island came on immediately after Love Boat on the same channel.

Awhile back, I bought a set of the first three seasons of The Love Boat at Walmart. I have watched episodes sporadically but never sat down and watched it beginning to end so I finally decided a few weeks ago I would. I'm almost done with season one and I gotta say I enjoy it a lot. Some of the comedy is even laugh out loud funny. It is cheesy, predictable and, by the end, everything's resolved.
If I see a similar set of Fantasy Island I will probably pick that up, too. I know I have seen some episodes but I don't remember much about it other than Ricardo Montalban.

They were fine junk TV for the time

I preferred Fantasy Island, Tattoo was a great character😃

reply

The Love Boat - only because I love cruising.

Did many characters actually get laid on the Love Boat? Did they have any threesome or bondage fantasies on Fantasy Island?

reply

🙄

I enjoy the cheesiness of The Love Boat, but Fantasy Island was always too silly for me.

reply

I agree it was silly but I liked how Fantasy island could have elements of many different genres in it. When I was a kid I remember some episodes being a little scary.

I, too, liked the parade of actors that got screen time on those cheesy shows. I never missed an episode of either. I preferred FI even though it was arguably the worse of the two. Always felt that they needed fewer stories per episode so they didn't have to rush them.

Some of these modern copy cats of Twilight Zone kinda do the same thing (Black Mirror, Electric Dreams, Etc)

many whose careers were long over.

reply

True, but it gave their fans another chance to see some of their favorite actors.

reply

Murder She Wrote was another show where you saw actors whose careers were long over.

reply

Good one! I forgot about it.
