Aren't films aimed at women (chick flick) and woman-centric not necessarily the same? For example, Erin Brockovich has a female lead, but I wouldn't call it a chick flick.
I liked The Devil Wears Prada, too. I'll mention Notting Hill (1999), I remember liking it.
i wouldn't say so - i could see making a case for it, since it's a relationship drama & set in a designer's world, fashion and all that...
but i still see it as a classic pta film, with his slightly skewed sensibilities. at its heart, i think it's a movie that keeps the film fanboys happy. it's actually my favourite film of his, most days.
Well, it is is about fashion, but I wouldn't classify it as a chick flick. It almost belongs to that Merchant-Ivory class of movies (leans female, but not entirely so).
and just to be clear, when i said it's a bad answer, that's not because i don't think it's a great movie. i definitely do.
i don't think it's really a women's movie. even though it's a musical about a girl and her relationship ups and downs, it's really just a great, sweet crowd-pleasing film.
agreed, agreed - i knew it was a bad choice, cuz it's just a classic film. but it was the only thing i could find that came close to being in that sort of 'girl movie' zone.
grease is just great fun. i'm making that my answer now, too. scratch out the response i gave above.
great bubblegum pop songs.
young travolta at his most charismatic (some will make the case for snf, and fair play to them, but c'mon...)
and olivia newton john at not quite her most freakishly hot, but still pretty damned hot.
i'm not into musicals as a rule, but there are a few i really like.
singin' in the rain is pretty much a perfect movie to me. i watch it every new year's day, cuz it seems like the perfect feel good film to start the year off.
i really like the belle and sebastian musical 'god help the girl.' it's really loose and shambolic and (if you know b&s's music at all, this is no surprise) completely twee, but it's a great time & filled with terrific songs.
i'm not crazy about la la land, but i really like damien chazelle's earlier musical 'guy and madeline on a park bench.' it's crude, almost amateurish compared to la la land, but very fun and energetic.
I was never a musicals guy (well, aside from Sound of Music), but my wife introduced me to Singing in the Rain and now I understand why it's such a classic. Donald O'Connor's song & dance number for "Make 'Em Laugh" is still amazing. How many times did he have to rehearse that one!
