Bragging

When did bragging become socially acceptable? I was raised to never boast on about myself or toot my own horn, but I see endless social media posts of self-adoration and outright in-your-face bragging. Then there are the cringeworthy humble braggers, those who frame a brag into a poor little me scenario.

Seems to be a change in our culture, doesn't it? I don't understand what happened that so many folks are overly concerned about how they appear to others.

Definite cultural shift for the worse. Bragging seems to go hand in hand with the obsession over appearance too. Maybe the internet has us so physically isolated that we have to solicit attention in bold, brassy ways.

What is bragging in psychology?

There is surprisingly little research in psychology on bragging, though there is plenty on the related concept of narcissism, where you become excessively full of pride (even though you may not feel that way on the inside). There is also a great deal of research on the flip side of bragging, which is depression and low self-esteem.

Someone on the NEWS just said that when you can only be TALL because someone else is on their KNEES then you have a SERIOUS PROBLEM.

Haha.

I wouldn't say it's more socially acceptable, but it is more common than I remember. I just remember this quote, the wording may not be verbatim but the spirit of it is true enough.

"Some personal characteristics are meant to be self-evident. If you find yourself having to state them on your own behalf, you might want to take a long hard look in the mirror to figure out why that is"

I hate braggers!

I'm pretty sure that it's just bad behavior but I'm too busy polishing my Ferrari and 60 foot yacht to get into it right now

🤣🤣🤣

I'll get back to you, I'm combing my Arabian Horses right now

reply

Don’t you have people to do that for you?

reply

Yeah, what does a Shogun have? Minions or something?

Around the same time that our entire society went into the shitter.

😒

maybe its due to the rise of completely vapid talentless nobody reality stars getting rich and famous for doing nothing , and most just brag about their cash and their crib.

Audiences seem to like that , and want to be them ,
ie want to be rich, famous and bragging about it .
most cant do the "rich and famous" but can still do the bragging!

reply

Yeah, blame can go on the Kardashian cabal and all of the Bravolebrities.
