I agree. There are plenty of character actors who are great, but they never seem to get prominent roles. That's a shame.

I think what's often forgotten (or maybe unknown to a lot of folks) is that many actors spend a lot of time in theater stage plays. If one doesn't live in New York, Chicago, London, or other major cities, one isn't necessarily aware of an actor's stage performances.

I don't think Peter Elbling has ever been in anything "great," but I've thought he was funny in every performance of his I've ever seen. Here he is as "Dragula," a gay vampire who turns all his victims gay, claiming his first victim in the very politically incorrect "Disco Beaver From Outer Space," a 1979 National Lampoon production for HBO: https://youtu.be/eeVyOuDYrks?t=311
