George Bailey has abandoned his wonderful life and become a defense attorney. In a murder trial, his client says he suffered temporary insanity after the victim raped his wife. What is the truth? To find that out, he works with an odd character who was once an apprentice witch who worked with three kids to use magic to defend Britain in World War II, but who now is a professional writer and amateur sleuth.

A naive hustler travels from Texas to New York City to seek personal fortune, finding a new friend in the process. They take the subway to catch a Yankees game but get lost and end up in Arizona, where a spaceship has arrived to take over the Earth, starting with the Wild West region. A posse of cowboys and natives are all that stand in their way, but the friend from NYC hinders them, as he is completely out of his element and can only wander among them repeatedly saying, "I'm walking here! I'm walking here!"

One evening after work, while playing his guitar and singing "Rocky Mountain High" (and perhaps getting such a high as well), an assistant grocery manager experiences a vision of a dinosaur-like beast, the product of nuclear weapons testing, which tells him it has selected him as its messenger for the modern world then says "good night, Gracie."

In a sleepy bedroom community, the murder of a professional athlete by two hit men sets into motion a chain of events that puts the mundane lives of a dozen residents on a collision course, as a pair of young lovers from different backgrounds defy their parents and friends to stay together.
