Movie Title Game: Before & After

Just like the Jeopardy category Before & After.

The answer is a combination of two movie titles.

First one...
Matthew McConaughey is a lawyer who teams up with Uma Thurman to exact vengeance.

BullSchmidt had our inaugural correct answer with...A Time to Kill Bill

Both great movies. The first one has an outstanding performance by Jeremy Irons.

George Bailey has abandoned his wonderful life and become a defense attorney. In a murder trial, his client says he suffered temporary insanity after the victim raped his wife. What is the truth? To find that out, he works with an odd character who was once an apprentice witch who worked with three kids to use magic to defend Britain in World War II, but who now is a professional writer and amateur sleuth.

reply

Anatomy of a Murder by Death

reply

I suppose that could work, but it wasn't what I had in mind. The part about the apprentice witch and three kids is a hint for the actress in the second title, which was a television series.

EDIT: It's been a full day with no further guesses, so I'll put the answer under a spoiler cover.

Anatomy of a Murder is the first movie. The apprentice witch and three kids refers to Angela Lansbury's character in Bedknobs and Broomsticks (1971). She played a writer/sleuth in the TV series Murder, She Wrote. So ... Anatomy Of A Murder, She Wrote.

A naive hustler travels from Texas to New York City to seek personal fortune, finding a new friend in the process. They take the subway to catch a Yankees game but get lost and end up in Arizona, where a spaceship has arrived to take over the Earth, starting with the Wild West region. A posse of cowboys and natives are all that stand in their way, but the friend from NYC hinders them, as he is completely out of his element and can only wander among them repeatedly saying, "I'm walking here! I'm walking here!"

Midnight Cowboys vs. Aliens ;)

I wonder what those aliens would make of Ratso?

reply

Close enough! The second movie's title is Cowboys & Aliens -- https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0409847/

One evening after work, while playing his guitar and singing "Rocky Mountain High" (and perhaps getting such a high as well), an assistant grocery manager experiences a vision of a dinosaur-like beast, the product of nuclear weapons testing, which tells him it has selected him as its messenger for the modern world then says "good night, Gracie."

EDIT: It's been a full day with no guesses, so I'll put the answer under a spoiler cover.

The two movies are:

Oh, God! (1977) -- https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0076489/

Godzilla (1954) -- https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0047034/

So -- Oh, Godzilla!

reply

That was very clever. I should've gotten the George Burns reference.

I'm still getting used to the idea of a divine lizard.
