Agreed. A voice like that comes along once in a century. Pity she had the problems she did.
Another one on my list is Pat Benatar. Her mother was a trained opera singer. I don't know if Benatar ever did any opera herself, or whether it's just due to her mother's influence, but I've never had any difficultly understanding what she was singing, even when she was belting it out at full force. By contrast, Stevie Nicks can be quite incomprehensible.
I once uncharitably described Stevie Nicks as sounding like a demented chipmunk.
