shareI met Richard Kiel once, about twenty years ago. Nice, laid back guy. He was already having mobility problems and was more or less confined to his chair. I was of course struck by the sheer size of the man. I'm something of a musician, started taking piano lessons at age five. And I'm 6'3", with hands to match; I can span a tenth with both hands, if you know what that means -- I can play a chord, say, with my left hand, where my pinky hits a C and my thumb hits the E a little over an octave above it. And when Kiel and I shook hands I suddenly felt like a four year old boy meeting an NFL linebacker. He had a can of some soft drink with him, a standard 12 ounce can, and it looked in his hands like a little 5 ounce paper cup would look in mine. We chatted for a while, his son was getting ready to enter medical school and I've got some connections with the field. I was sorry to hear of his passing away.
