Is there a name for doughnuts that don't have a hole in the middle?

My wife made some tasty doughnuts with chocolate frosting (no chance staying slim at King's Towers), but they didn't have a hole in the middle. Does anyone know if there's a name for this variation?

reply

They're just doughnuts aren't they? I'm more used to them than the ones with holes in the middle.

reply

I’ve always associated doughnuts either with holes in the middle or having jam (or maybe chocolate) in the middle. These are just huge mutant doughnut monsters (albeit tasty ones).

reply

Ah right, I misunderstood. Yeah they need a filling if there's no hole.

reply

Imagine a doughnut on steroids.

reply

polish donuts don't have holes.

reply

Don’t they normally have jam in them? The wife has just made these huge mounds of doughnut - no filling, no hole.

reply

yes they do have jam. we used to feast on these when we were kids.

reply

Well a Twist, Bar, and Fritter are all donuts in my favorite shop and they lack the torus shape as well. So I think what she made is still a donut and even a doughnut.

reply

No, I think what she’s created is an abomination - an incredibly tasty, calorie filled, abomination that I am compelled to eat.

reply

I think they're just called "doughnuts."

reply

Or donuts in Americaland.

reply

I blame "Dunkin' Donuts" for that one, lol. I think "doughnut" is the proper spelling. We would only use the other spelling for fun.

Little fun fact about me: I've actually made those before :D

reply

“I've actually made those before :D”
Oh, I’m definitely dropping by then, next time I’m over there.

reply

It's just "Dunkin" now. Perhaps they are repenting for their spelling crime.

reply

They dropped "Donuts" because they didn't want customers to think of them as strictly a doughnut shop. You can get breakfast sandwiches, muffins, bagels, flatbreads and a variety of beverages. "Dunkin" by itself is perfect for today's trend towards lazy speech.

reply

Well the word "donuts" is the one that makes my mouth water so I would say dropping that would be a mistake.....

reply

I know you said it isn't a beignet, but it seems pretty close. https://youtu.be/VDWBTsxEX7U

reply

Whatever the heck they are, I can’t stop eating them.

reply

I see the research is going well.

reply

The extra notch on my belt agrees.

reply

Would it be an eclair?

reply

No, eclairs are a whole different kind of confectionery conundrum.
