Is there a name for doughnuts that don't have a hole in the middle?

My wife made some tasty doughnuts with chocolate frosting (no chance staying slim at King's Towers), but they didn't have a hole in the middle. Does anyone know if there's a name for this variation?

reply

Timbits. Put some respek on a Canadian delicacy.

reply

Imagine a large doughnut sized Timbit - that's close to what she's created.

reply

Timbits are the holes

reply

Yes, but there are no holes in them. But I was also joking because I knew he was talking about regular doughnuts.

reply

Muffin

reply

Actually Cake might be more accurate.

reply

The thing is, they actually taste like doughnuts, as opposed to a cake (there's a slight difference).

A Berliner.

Without clicking. JFK?

reply

Yep - the Simpsons interpretation

reply

JFK was a true Berliner. Sweet on the inside, greasy on the outside. Or something like that.🤔

reply

There's no jelly inside and instead of a hole, more doughnut, lol.

reply

"They are sometimes made with chocolate, champagne, custard, mocha, or advocaat filling, or with no filling at all."

Or did your wife make oliebollen?

reply

Or did your wife make oliebollen?

Possibly, when I first googled it, that came up. There's only one option - I'm going to have to eat every single suggestion made and see which one is the closest.

reply

Could she please make all of these and share them with us???🤤

reply

Don't encourage her - she cooks for fun and it all tastes scrumptious!

reply

These too, please!

reply

A few years ago she took a cake course, so now she makes proper professional looking cakes (tasty too!).

reply

Then send her to the kitchen! We want cake!🎂

reply

We still have a mountain of chocolate coated Oliebollens/Berliners/Timbits/Whole Doughnuts (that's my term for holeless doughnuts) to eat!

reply

Ship them to Rotterdam right now!

reply

You’ll get fat.

reply

Hey, are you body shaming?!

reply

You’ll have to buy new clothes.

reply

Clothes? What are clothes?

reply

You’ll be less healthy than you were before.

reply

YUMMMMMMMMMMM!!!!!!!!!!!

reply

Did they have any filling? Or were they just cake doughnuts minus the hole?

In the U.S. if they are filled, there are many regional names for them.

reply

Yeah, they were just doughnuts without filling, minus a hole (so more for your money I guess, lol).

reply

Jelly doughnuts don't have holes in them but, I think they are just called Jelly doughnuts. And I know in German, they call doughnuts Fettiglich.

reply

Imagine a jelly doughnut, without the jelly and instead of a hole, more doughnut, lol.

reply

I just had this image of someone trying to put jelly in a donut with a hole in it and it falls out of the hole. Don't know why but got me laughing hysterically

reply

Now I'm sat here chuckling at the thought of you chuckling.

reply

Beignets?

reply

Apparently (according to Google),
'The ingredients in a beignet are slightly different from those in a traditional donut recipe, and that results in a distinct texture difference. Made with more yeast and fewer eggs than a typical donut recipe, beignets tend to be "a little more puffy with a soft middle," notes Alyssa Rivers in The Recipe Critic.'

However, I'm more than happy to do some further research (slurp!).

reply

I think they're called just dots?

reply

Pastries... Or even better: AN UNHOLY DONUT!!!

reply

An unholy doughnut - I like this (along with a whole doughnut without a hole).
