I GOT MY SECOND DOSE OF THE COVID-19 VACCINE!!!

Eat your hearts out! When my immune system finishes processing its little bit of targeted stimulation, I'll be 94% immune against a nasty virus! Yay!!!

And everyone's attention has been taken away from the coronavirus pandemic by more urgent events, so I want to take this opportunity to remind the Moviechatters that there's no cure for this shit and it'll take some time to vaccinate the world's general population, so protect yourself and others in the meantime! Wear masks because you could be infected and contagious and not know it, as the virus takes days before it produces symptoms, wash your hands frequently, and keep a distance of six feet or more from anyone you don't live with. I've seen what this virus can do, and believe me, you don't want any of that.

Really, protect yourselves, protect your families, protect your neighbors, protect your country!

reply

Congrats....so it was around the 8th.
Hopefully there will be no more variants or mutations.

reply

There are mutations on the way, viruses constantly mutate or exchange DNA, and with so many hosts available there are already mutations. But I read an article in today that said the Prizer vaccine also seems to be effective against the new mutation, the one that's more contagious. Yay, Pfizer!

So this is why we all have to take steps to protect ourselves and the people around us, the fewer infections ther are the less the virus has a chance to mutate. I mean it - don't fuck around! If you think that masks are uncool or you're in no danger yourself, educate yourself on this virus! It's bad, deadly in too many cases, and it's insidious because the onset is so slow that it people have days or weeks of spreading the virus before they have any idea they have it.

reply

So basically, the current vaccine may not be effective against some future variant/mutation of the virus.

reply

The idea is to kill it before it has a chance to produce 100s of variants like the flu has.

reply

That's good because last time I took the flu vaccine, it almost killed me three times that season.
It was the the only time I ever received a flu vaccine that made me miserably, painfully, and agonizingly sick that same year.

reply

People who had covid should still be vaccinated since their immunity may be low.

reply

My wife had covid over thanksgiving and she had an antibody test 2 weeks ago that came up negative. So yes, people who have had it should still take the vaccine as well.

reply

Where are you from? I haven't heard of anyone around here having access to it yet. I've never really gone out of my way to get a flu shot, but I plan on getting the Covid vaccine when its available.

reply

California, US. I don't say anything personal about myself on this forum, but I'm among the first in the state to get it.

I think it's fair to take ten seconds out of my day to tell people honestly how it goes, because so many people are afraid of the vaccine.

reply

any side effects?

reply

A slightly sore arm maybe for some, I think.

reply

Do you work in a healthcare field to earn this priority for a vaccination?

reply

...AND IN TWO YEARS WHEN YOU AND ALL THE OTHER PEOPLE WHO TOOK BOTH DOSES MUTATE INTO RABID FLESHEATERS I WILL DO YOU THE HONOR OF PUTTING YOU DOWN.๐Ÿ™‚

reply

There's that phony, internet, badass shtick again ! (eye-roll)

reply

IT MIGHT BE PHONY AND INTERNET...BUT I ASSURE YOU...I AM QUITE THE BADASS.๐Ÿ˜Ž

reply

aren't you watching Bambi right now??

reply

LMAO...POINT OF FACT!...I AM CURRENTLY WATCHING DODGEBALL THE MOVIE WITH A TWELVE YEAR OLD GIRL AND SIX CATS.๐Ÿ™‚

reply

Not "it", you! I've dealt with plenty of paper tigers in my life and I know one when I see one.

LMAO...SAYS THE LETTERS & NUMBERS ANONYMOUSLY THROUGH THE INTERNET.๐Ÿ™‚

reply

WHO WOULDNT LIKE JOHN STAMOS SINGING "FOREVER"?๐Ÿคจ

reply

DID WE DO IT AND I FORGOT?๐Ÿค”

reply

Nope! I'm going to be among the survivors who didn't catch the mutant strain of COVID-19 that turns people into flesh-eating zombies!

I'd ask if I can have your stuff, but if this follows the standard zombie-movie timeline, in a year or two I won't have to ask.

reply

IF IM DEAD...AND MY DAUGHTER IS DEAD...MY ATTIC CINEMATIC LIBRARY WILL BE WORTH YOUR TIME.

reply

Thanks for the tip! I'm making a scavenging list already, and cinematic libraries are definitely on it!

Be a doll and lay in a generator and some fuel so I can use your big-screen to watch your collection, will ya?

reply

AMC's The Walking Dead had a story arc where potentially violent enemies were turned into allies, with the offer to watch movies. They had scavenged a movie projector and reels of film from a theater.

reply

OH YEAH,I REMEMBER THAT...I COULD HAVE BEEN SWAYED THAT WAY FOR SURE.

reply

DNA & RNA are not the same thing. You won't mutate.

reply

I'll be 94% immune against a nasty virus! Yay!!!

So in other words, if your computer gets infected with malware, you're screwed.

reply

You are lucky. I'm supposed to be in the group to receive the 1st shot the end of this month. I'm concerned with Biden's plan to release all of the vaccines that were being held back for 2nd doses. If I get the 1st shot and not enough is available for my 2nd, then what a mess that will be.

This never should have been left up to the states to establish the roll out protocols - it should have been a national program that all states have to follow. There should have been established windows for each group and once that time passed, then on to the next.

Look at the mess in NY - totally ridiculous.

reply

I guess I think the opposite. I think it was too centralised. The ACIP recommendations are that Phase 1a is being vaccinated but matching the number of doses in the vials can be unpredictable, the vials are carried in pizza boxes of a particular size, they have to be used within a specific window after being thawed, etc. So it's impossible to perfectly schedule appointments for the exact right number of people, and then what if someone can't show because their surgery went long or whatever. If there was more flexibility, you could have waiting lists of people in phase 1b or 1c who could be offered leftover doses as long as they can show up in time. Or maybe you could have a contingency that you could vaxx spouses of 1a people if there were leftover doses. One story was a nurse who went out in the street and gathered up three bystanders because that's who she was able to get.

I do agree that there needs to be some kind of window so that people in the preferred group can't keep delaying and delaying their decision while vaccine goes to waste. Make your appointment by X time otherwise we will open the appointment window to people lower down on the list. I do NOT think (as some have suggested) that people in 1a who decline the current offer date should go to the back of the line. I think it's reasonable that there are young health professionals who want to wait a few more weeks for more data because they consider their personal risk to be low.

reply

So what is the answer to the situation in NY? Why should that even be happening? People in Florida who are over 65 can get the shot, although supplies are limited, while NY appears to be in chaos.

I think the people in 1a who, for whatever reason, refuse the vaccination should at least go to the back of the line until people over 65 and anyone younger who have pre-existing conditions have been vaccinated.

reply

I completely agree on the question of whether it is ok to hold back doses. My husband works in pharma mf and it does happen that drug lots fail quality control and can't be released. (Sometimes drugs can be on shortage for months, as with the shortage of EpiPens a couple of years ago.) Fortunately, the vaccine advisory committee is really good, they are asking all the right questions. I don't think they will approve the change unless it will work.

reply

Super news!

I believe between 1.5M - 2M have been vaccinated in the UK so far.

reply

I was reading where the UK is also considering releasing all of the vaccines being held back for 2nd doses. Is that true?

reply

Itโ€™s hard to keep up because it changes daily, but my take on it is that vaccinations will be ramped up with the army helping out (and possibly pharmacists).

Frontline workers first, then the most vulnerable, followed by the oldest and working back through younger age groups.

Fingers crossed, eh?

reply

Good for you!

Sometimes people get lucky. In Kentucky the distribution plan is that "group 1A" (health care personnel, etc) gets their first shots now, and "group 1B" (anyone over 70) gets the first shot starting on February 1. My father, in his mid 80s and diabetic, is in group 1B. His health care provider screwed up this week and began vaccinating people in group 1B. When the local seniors realized what was happening the phone calls and text messages started flying. By the time the health care provider caught its mistake they had granted several appointments for those seniors to be vaccinated over the next few days, including my father. They stopped granting those appointments but are honoring the ones they made.

reply

It's me again! It's the next morning, and the injection site is sore and there's a bit of a lump there, something I never had with previous vaccinations or flu shots. That seems to be it for reactions, though.

I'm also happy to report that I was vaccinated BEFORE the queen of Great Britain and Empire, and her husband!

reply

I'm happy for you! Can't wait until I can get it. I suspect it will be March or April at the earliest, that it will be my turn.

reply

AND SO THE WAITING BEGINS...WHICH ONE OF US WILL TURN INTO A FLESH HUNGRY MUTANT AND WHICH OF US KILLS THE OTHER AND TAKES THEIR STUFF(MY STUFF BEING BETTER OF COURSE)...I WOULD WISH YOU LUCK,BUT I WONT.๐Ÿ™‚

reply

Since Prince Phillip is already about 80% along the road to becoming a zombie, he'll make a great test case! If he breaks out of the palace and starts eating the brains of passers-by we'll know it's the vaccine and not the disease that brings on the zombie apocalypse!

And he'd *have* to break out into the public sphere and cause a scandal if he goes full zombie, there aren't any brains inside the royal palace.

reply

I WOULD BE WUITE EXCITED FOR THAT FLICK.๐Ÿ™„
