what are your unpopular TV opinions

Friends sucked.

reply

I'll get slammed for this but The Office Sucks.

reply

I agree. I found it unwatchable.

reply

🙄 #1 & #2 TOP SHOWS EVER.

reply

By number of great episodes I'd say. 1 the simpsons, 2. seinfeld, 3. supernatural... If I go back and actually count the episode that were great I'd say thats pretty accurate. This isn't based on what changes they added to the industry say like I love lucy. One of my favorites but not in sheer volume of great episodes.

reply

SIMPSONS AND SEINFELD WOULD BOTH BE IN MY TOP TEN...I STILL HAVE NEVER GOTTEN AROUND TO WATCHING THE 237 SEASONS OF SUPERNATURAL.

reply

Hey theres a reason for that 12,847th episode, its a great show. Seasons 1-7 are pretty much rock solid.

reply

I didn't care for Seinfeld.

reply

I felt the same way. I don't understand why people call it the best comedy show. There were maybe two decent episodes.

reply

It had it's moments but the constant Jewish whining drove me up the wall.

reply

yup its overrated. i dont mind is as much now but as a poor kid without cable forced to watch lame show i really fucking hated this show

For the old folks (I was a little one and watched it mostly on reruns and DVDs)...

The White Shadow (1978-81) was quality television, and no, Will Ferrell should not make a feature film based on the series....leave it as is...

reply

Star Trek: Voyager was much better than Deep Space Nine

reply

CKid- Actually Deep Space Nine was vastly superior to Star Trek:Voyager. DS9 made use of all of its characters. They were allowed to grow and change. There were actual story arcs.

Voyager had a good start but became the Doctor/Seven of Nine Show. The other characters got shafted.

reply

The Americans (2013-18) should be more popular...

I used to watch Two and a Half Men now and then, and sometimes thought it was funny...

reply

YOU REALLY SHOULD KEEP THAT SHEEN TO YOURSELF.🙂

reply

Hahahaha, love it!

Unpopular is the game, K-man...

I suppose it’s better than keeping Kutcher to myself... I think I watched one, maybe two eps with him...it wasn’t like it was Shakespeare with Sheen, but wow, what a drop in quality....It was like going from Shaquille O’Neal to Chris Mihm....

reply

MY DECEASED GRANDMOTHER LOVED TWO AND A HALF MEN...NOW MY DERANGED HIPPIE DAD IS WATCHING IT ALL THE TIME...WHICH IS WEIRD BECAUSE MY GRANDMOTHER AND HE HATED EACH OTHER AS MUCH AS POSSIBLE WITHOUT A MURDER...HE PREFERS THE KUTCHER YEARS...UGH...LOVE THE ANALOGY...I ALWAYS WISHED MIHM COULD HAVE STAYED HEALTHY AND DEVELOPED HIS GAME A BIT MORE...I LIKED THE DUDE...I ALWAYS PICTURED HIM BLOCKING SHOTS ACCOMPANIED BY THE CATCHPHRASE..."MIHM'S THE WORD!"...OH WELL.

reply

Star Trek original series is the only Star Trek show worth watching.

reply

'Boardwalk Empire' was all dressed up with nowhere to go. It looked so gloriously stylish but the story line was boring.

reply

I tried and never could get into it.

reply

That description could apply to Mad Men. It was very superficial with horrible characters. I know it was supposed to be a social commentary, but it was presented like an example - an ad for bad behavior. I didn't like having to search through subtext for real emotion.

reply

I get that, it could be a tough watch...a character study, if you will, but it could laborious viewing if you end up not caring or even hating those shady characters...

reply

I couldn't get going with 'Mad Men' it just didn't interest me.

reply

Yeah, Q, my ex-gf loved it, I just couldn’t get into it, and I like period dramas...

reply

Do tell ! What are some of your favourite period dramas ?

reply

Truth is, it’s a relatively new interest of mine, I’ve only watched a few but willing to take recs...Mad Men, a show I thought I’d never watch and even less did I think I’d like, is probably my favorite show ever...though not in the far past, I liked the 80s U.S./Soviet intrigue of The Americans....I really need to finish Foyle’s War, I liked the first two seasons....I might revisit North and South because it’s been awhile, I watched it as a kid....I really enjoyed the John Adams mini-series, Giamatti was excellent, that’s definitely getting a rewatch...another recent is The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, but that’s mixed with comedy....Chernobyl was dark and emotionally wretched, but a good watch...I think that’s it, feels like I’m missing something...

A few I’m considering: Babylon Berlin, The Borgias, The Tudors, Turn: Washington Spies, Deadwood, and the one season of War and Peace (I hope it’s easier than the book, I’m pretty sure it is)...I’m so behind, and there is so much good programming...and then there’s my ever-growing movie list....it’s all so overwhelming...alas, first world problems...lol

reply

I've watched about five seasons of 'Foyle's War' and it's a solid show but it does get a little repetitive after a while. 'The Tudors' was very good I thought. I couldn't get going with 'The Borgias' and I'm only just starting on 'War and Peace' (2016) and so far so good.

As far as recommendations go here's a little list. Mostly TV mini-series and some films:

Upstairs, Downstairs (1971-75)
Brideshead Revisited (1981)
The Remains of the Day (1993)
Middlemarch (1994)
Pride and Prejudice (1995)
Sense and Sensibility (1995)
Emma (1996) - the Gwyneth Paltrow version
Our Mutual Friend (1998)
Wives and Daughters (1999)
The Lost Prince (2003)
North and South (2004) - set in England
Bleak House (2005)
Fingersmith (2005)
Jane Eyre (2006)
Oliver Twist (2007)
Persuasion (2007)
Belgravia (2020)

reply

I’ve thought of a few of those....I’ll add after I get through my list, though Belgravia is new so it might get a jump....

reply

The Borgias makes a very grand and compelling first impression, but it began to spiral in season 3 and was abruptly cancelled. The ending has angered me for years.
