Who is the best movie director of all time?
I would say Alfred Hitchcock.
shareJohn Carpenter.
Having said that, I do think some of his films are overrated.
My favorite Carpenter movie is Big Trouble In Little China, I also enjoyed The Thing and I like parts of Halloween and the franchise/mythology surrounding Michael Myers it created.
Which one is your favorite John Carpenter film?
I saw Big Trouble in Little China last year in the theater. Absolutely great.

shareAs far as American directors go, I'd say Scorsese has the most impressive body of work. Followed by Kubrick possibly.
Coppola might have had the greatest run of any director ever in the 70s, where he just knocked one classic out after another, but after Apocalypse now he never really hit those heights again. The closest he came in my opinion might have been with Dracula. That's my favorite version, but horror fans tend to be pretty divided on that one.
I'm not a film scholar by any means, though. My knowledge of older movies is sketchy in some areas. And I haven't seen nearly as many foreign films as I want to. I keep meaning to get around to taking in more of those, but never seem to.
Fellini and Kurosawa, for sure, and probably the best of Bergman.
I'm just an old dummy but that's my short list of getting into vintage foreign film.
Very well-trod paths, but essential in the long run.
Ingmar Bergman
shareDavid Fincher.
shareImo it’s David Fincher, I also like a lot of the Coen Brothers movies.
