New York is now like 9/11
Everything shut. Thousands of people dying.
shareThose of you who don't stay home can be fined.

Thanks.
shareNBC nightly, last night said many more people are dying at home. NYC ambulances picked up 280 dead people from their homes yesterday. So, the counts are starting to get ambiguous.

I like how the people who called it an exaggeration 12 days ago have totally disappeared from this thread now the death count in NYC has reached 5800. lol
shareOn April 5, the United States Surgeon General compared the coronavirus to 9/11, just like the op said.
To be fair, I know those other posters were just trying to keep everyone feeling positive, and not wanting anyone to panic. Good intentions.
We do need to keep positive, and informed.
It's nothing like 9/11
shareI guess that after this is over thousands of people from NYC will move out to the island just like they did after 9-11. They brought their big city beliefs, big city laws, big city regulations, and big city attitudes into the suburbs and completely fu#ked them up. Things have never been the same out here since 9-11. It's sad when strangers move in and turn your town into the very thing that they were running away from :-(
shareYeah, New Yorkers have a reputation of being brash and obnoxious. Don't know how much true that is.
shareOh, it is. We use to say that the closer that you got towards the city the ruder the people became. That was the truth for the time. These days people are just as rude here as they are in the city because a lot of them are transplants from the city. They came out here in droves after 9-11. I live in Suffolk county. My family has been here for seven generations. There wasn't s heck of a lot in my area when I was growing up. That changed after 9-11. It's so busy here these days that it is nerve wracking at times.
share"Big city beliefs"?
You sound like a rube.
You are exactly the type of person that I am writing about. If you didn't live here prior to 9-11 you can't voice an opinion on the difference between then and now.
shareI also grew up in Suffolk County.
Let's just chill. This is a stressful time. I'm sorry I called you a rube.
It's okay. My prayers are with your parents regardless of what you said. We're the same age. Where did you grow up?
shareWest Islip, my parents now live in Amityville.
I graduated in 1979.
You didn't do to school with any of the DeFeo kids??
shareI read that book. It was interesting to read because I knew where everything took place, but ugh! What a load of B.S. that one was. 300 plus pages about the horrors of flies. Zzzzzzzzzz!
shareNo.
No one on Long Island gives a poop about that.
Ah, we're not the same age. The 1975 after your name led me to believe you were born in 1975. I went to high school in West Islip (Saint John the Baptist). The south shore was always crazy to me back then because it was so much more built up then the north shore.
I drove by the Amityville house for the first time this summer. You've probably passed it a lot.
I like the band from Manchester U.K. called The 1975.
I've passed that house thousands of times. Ocean Avenue.
Saint John's is right next to Good Samaritan Hospital, which was on world news networks yesterday.
Dude, just please be safe, stay inside, live long and prosper.

passed right by Italy and Spain.
shareAmazing that we had only just reached 20,000 ten days ago. We are already at 44,000 now.
shareit is very surreal.
shareI've been saying for several weeks now that 60,000 dead is probably our best case scenario. Looking more and more like that will come to pass. Europe (excluding Russia) is close to 100,000 dead already. How closely will we track with them? That is the question. These numbers don't factor in any possible autumn resurgence or a mutation, either.
Looks like France will overtake Spain shortly for the number three spot. Hardly surprising since France has 20 million more people than Spain and also next door Belgium is still raging out of control. FYI Belgium has 6,000 dead with a population of only 11 million. Belgium's death rate is something like 14%.
