If this is one, this: When a random detective who's hidden outside in the dark, usually smoking, suddenly reveals themselves to the main character and scares the shit out of them for no reason. Why do this? It's so abnormal.

1/ Ordinary type people (usually kids) doing something very innocent or somewhat naughty/illegal stumble upon dead body/lots of dead bodies.

Cue scene of CSI types going over the ground.

2/ In order to solve crime a trip to the strip club/brothel/x rated movie studio is in order.
