Secluded Beach house or secluded lake house.

I need a vacation and I was thinking nice big house on a lake with no neighbors, but I think most people would prefer the beach house. I grew up on the beach, so it's not as peaceful too me.

reply

Both are excellent choices but I'd prefer the lake house

I'd imagine it would be lonelier, quieter and not as hot at a lake

c. mountain cabin with babbling brook

reply

I've always wanted to learn to fly fish so the brook is good.

reply

Yup, same. I love fishing but I don’t fly fish either. I could watch those guys all day though. Very cool sport.

reply

I've done alot of fishing but fly fishing is kind on my bucket list.

reply

Lake house.

reply

what do you want to do on the lake house. jet ski, have a beer and stare at the sunset..make love in the water?

reply

Beaches are for fun, secluded beaches are no fun. If I need a secluded vacation, a lake house it is. Probably I would do nothing. Sleeping, hiking, swimming, whatever. Just enjoying having no people around.

reply

Beach for me. I love the ocean.

Yes, "ironic" like he says and also almost defies logic http://www.fox13news.com/news/local-news/93-year-old-florida-man-goes-to-the-beach-for-the-first-time

That’s a great story. I’ve been to Sarasota, just a bit south of that spot. Beautiful beaches in that area. Hopefully he gets down there a little more often now.

I watched Kill the Messenger last night. Excellent movie. I didn’t know the story beforehand and did a little research afterward. It’s striking to me how the rest of the media lined up to attack his reporting and, despite the intensity of their efforts, how little substance was produced by those attacks.

Thanks again for the recommendation.

Glad you liked that story. I've been to Winter Park, which is just north of Orlando if I remember correctly.

I'm also glad you enjoyed Kill the Messenger that much. I kind of downplayed my opinion of it, pending your response. I actually wouldn't mind watching it again. I'm sure I would get some new insights. Both interestingly and ironically, I encountered the Chuck Schumer quote in your post which triggered my memory of that movie, just a short while ago in a news clip.

Anna Maria Island is where we used to go when we lived in Tampa, FL. We went to a quiet beach on the northern tip of the island. So quiet there we were often the only ones on the beach. I'm sure by now it's so full of homes that you can't even get to the beach we visited.

When I lived on Oahu as a military brat, I remember Waianae Beach as the designated beach for military dependents. It was about a half an hour's trip via a military shuttle bus from my home. I've since learned that Waianae is actually the name of a town there and several beaches are located along that coast which are fairly popular with tourists.

reply

Unfortunately, these days tourists seem to ruin everything. And this selfie-instagram world makes it even worse.

reply

I grew up by the ocean but I like the rugged coastline.

reply

Totally depends on the point of the vacation for me. I love to scuba dive, so a beach house is a little appealing, but even then I'd rather a house back in the jungle with a drive to the beach.

A secluded lake house sounds like heaven though.

reply

Where are you from? Asking because the weather is getting colder here in the US. I live by the ocean, so I would choose a lake.

reply

lake house, beaches are loud...........
