What was your favorite radio station growing up?

My favorite radio station growing up was OK95 (94.9FM Tri-Cities, WA) and it was the then current Top 40 station back in the 1980's/90's, I loved how diverse the station was back in the day, I was sad when it got replaced by a country station back in the Spring of 1996

102.7 FM WNEW, New York. great AOR station in the 70s and 80s

reply

It was THE station when I was a teen in the mid 1970s.

Before that, it was Top 40 on 770 AM WABC, Cousin Brucie and all that.

reply

Yup, it was definitely WABC AM when I was a kid.

After I returned back to N.Y. following college in 1973, it was WNEW FM.
However, I must add that during the years I lived in Woodbury (4 years) and Long Beach (2 years), I also listened to WLIR FM a lot.
Then in 1982, I moved to Miami.

reply

WLIR was also great in those days, playing new wave/punk and later on (as WDRE) alternative rock.

reply

I also liked WPLJ, another AOR

reply

I don't remember the station but I do the DJ...Wolfman Jack.

I just watched another magic series that you would probably appreciate

He does a “magic backpack” trick towards the end of the first episode that is just amazing.

reply

I appreciate the tip but I don't have Netflix.

I watch this on occasion. It has some great acts. https://moviechat.org/tt1811179/Penn-and-Teller-Fool-Us

WXKS "KISS" 108 in Boston, with Sunny Joe White as the morning DJ. They played all disco, all day - mostly Boston native Donna Summer (which is how I fell in love with her).

I have a vinyl soundtrack of The Deep (1977) and the 12” vinyl record is blue like the ocean. There was even a poster of the movie still intact inside the album sleeve when I bought it. Anyhow, Donna Summer’s vocals on Down Deep Inside for the films theme are amazing. It’s one of my favorite soundtracks.

reply

WOW! I never bought the record when it was released as a single, but I recall hearing it on KISS back in the late 70s. I finally got it on CD when I bought her 'Live and More' CD (they left off 'MacArthur Park Suite and included 'Down Deep Inside').

reply

I bought it recently at a used vinyl store. It was one of those I could not wait to get home with.

102.5 WFMF in Baton Rouge Louisiana.

I miss the late night mixes the DJ’s would play on weekend nights in the late 80’s to early 90’s. Lots of good club music all night.

reply

When I was in Florida, I think it was WDIN (we’re talking 35 years ago, so forgive the addled memory)? They played a ‘six pack of Rock’ - six tracks, back to back, no talking.

In ‘Sunny’ Bournemouth, it used to be Radio 1; I don’t listen to the radio anymore.
