Does this job posting sound "picky" to you?

"Well established office seeking an associate to join our team. We are searching for a self-motivated, friendly individual with strong work ethic and exceptional skills.

This position is best suited for someone with 2+ years of experience that is used to a busy, productive schedule. The successful candidate will be supported by an experienced and highly motivated team. "

"Self-motivated" pretty much means no training and that you're on your own. "Exceptional skills" means they don't want average but a perfect person. Also, the fact they're looking for someone with 2+ years experience. Would you apply for a job like this? I'm not perfect at all and consider myself just "average".

I've noticed this job posting has been up for 2 years and they still can't find anyone. It's for one position in a small office of 10. They repeat the job posting every 6-8 months. That is a huge red flag IMO. That means they're either 1) hiring and firing people because they're picky or 2) people are quitting due to toxic work atmosphere. Either way, not a good sign.

Sounds okay to me. They are very clear about the person they want to hire. The company will probably get a lot of candidates for the position.

It's only for 1 position though. It's a small office of only about 10 people. I think I will apply anyway. Can't hurt to see what it's like. I can always turn it down if it's not suitable for me.

reply

Hope it works for you.

sounds like a sales job.

Its a red flag that its been up for two years and the office only has 10 people. If you want it I would go in, say what you think they want you to say, and after you get it , no matter what happens, keep your head down, and say nothing.

The thing that I notice most is it is kind of vague. You could include that job description for almost any type of job. It should mention specifics like what sort of tasks the person will be expected to do.

reply

The posting itself looks no different to thousands of others.

"Self-motivated" pretty much means no training and that you're on your own.

Not really. I always found it meant they are looking for someone who is willing to reach out and learn new things, and not wait to be taught. It sounds like they're looking for someone who won't just settle in the job they're in, but looking for advancement in the future.

The red flag for me is the fact that there's so much turn-over in the position for an office of 10, unless there's room for advancement and people are working from home.

Sounds like a pretty stock standard job ad to me

That's what I was thinking - generic with a few buzzwords. It makes me wonder what the heck kind of job it is. I suppose if one knows the company name one might guess what it is.

reply

Sounds like a grunt job where you have to report to ten different bosses. It’s probably also boring and low pay. People take a job like this until they can find something better.

reply

Probably a lot of TPS reports to fill out. With cover sheets!

reply

Yup 🤣
