Does this job posting sound "picky" to you?

"Well established office seeking an associate to join our team. We are searching for a self-motivated, friendly individual with strong work ethic and exceptional skills.

This position is best suited for someone with 2+ years of experience that is used to a busy, productive schedule. The successful candidate will be supported by an experienced and highly motivated team. "

"Self-motivated" pretty much means no training and that you're on your own. "Exceptional skills" means they don't want average but a perfect person. Also, the fact they're looking for someone with 2+ years experience. Would you apply for a job like this? I'm not perfect at all and consider myself just "average".

I've noticed this job posting has been up for 2 years and they still can't find anyone. It's for one position in a small office of 10. They repeat the job posting every 6-8 months. That is a huge red flag IMO. That means they're either 1) hiring and firing people because they're picky or 2) people are quitting due to toxic work atmosphere. Either way, not a good sign.

Btw, what does the company do?

It's definitely not a minimum wage job. It's a professional job related to the health field. I don't want to be too specific.

Sounds reasonable to me. That said when I was unemployed in the early 90's I saw a job ad from a jeweler's who wanted a 15 year old apprentice with experience!

A 15 year old experienced apprentice jeweler?!

reply

Could it have been asking for an apprentice with 15 years of experience?

reply

Nope it was for a 15 year old, I remember reading it at the time and thinking I got it wrong as I believed what you suggested. So I re-read it a few times and it was for a 15 year old with experience.
