Actors who almost always play themselves

Adam Sandler.

He's not talented enough to play anyone else.

That's kind of the point of this thread.

Yes I know, but I just couldn't help myself.

I suppose some actors got their start playing themselves and then got typecast. How frustrating that must be.

reply

most actors seem to play themselves, or have one mode, manner of acting which is why Day-Lewis is a stand out imo

reply

I agree. I might throw Jack Nicholson or Cameron Diaz into that pool.

reply

Day-Lewis' shtick is putting on weird make-up and acting all over the top. I'm not at all impressed with him.

reply

Don't know what he was like in his personal life, but I suspect John Wayne.

reply

True. I don't know if he played himself, but he certainly played the same character all the time.

reply

Along that line (delivery if not character), William Shatner. Perhaps Henry Fonda.

reply

John Wayne was very well read and quite intelligent. He used to say stupid political things when interviewed for some reason.

Samuel Jackson

reply

Good one.

reply

Yeah, "The Hardest Working Man in Hollywood" ( sarcasm). It's all about volume, not quality. This is exactly what I meant by an easy paycheck.

reply

You think he uses the MF word in his personal life as much as he does in his movies?

Michael Cera, for when you need a quirky awkward guy.
Jesse Eisenberg for when you need awkward, but need to dial down the quirk.
Kirsten steward for when you need a person to look confused as to what emotions are.
Jason Statham for when you need an unshaved, english hard man who cant be killed. Not even by the writers.
Vin Diesel for when you need a fat man to act tough.
Michelle Rodriguez for when you need a quiet wilting lady in a rom com, just kidding. for when you need a super butch one tone hard lady.
Hugh Grant for when you need an English upper class bumbler as a love interest.
Vince Vaughan for when you need someone that looks like they have never slept.
Will Ferrel for when you need someone one to shout bad lines to fool the audience into thinking they arent bad lines.
