Your best years
Do you feel they're in front of you or behind you?
Sadly, I think mine are behind me. That doesn't mean the years ahead are bad, just not as good as those in the past.
Dang, getting old sucks.

Far behind me.
shareI've had some awesome times intertwined with some pretty crappy times. I think that every year will be my best year because I'm still here, and I'm still trying.
Sounds a little cheesy, I know, but it's true. There's still so much more to do and see, some of its gotta be great. So what if my body can't do all the things it used to do? Maybe change some of my priorities. Theres still adventure to be had.
With what you’re facing everyday...the effort to get out of bed being one, you have a great attitude! Tex and db are correct in saying you show an inspirational resilience to others with your outlook on life. May God Bless and give you the needed strength to enjoy those new adventures you speak of!
I only know of one alternative to getting older and I don’t recommend it.
shareBetter than the alternative? Sad to say my husband is ready for that “alternative”!
shareI'm so sorry to hear that, Ksp.
shareThanks, Cat. You yourself have to stay young not only in years but in mindset. Why? Due to what you’ve been through over the last 3 years. Caregiver, moving, evacuations, moving, evacuations, moving....sigh...🙇♀️ I’m beginning to think a good purchase for you and your 4 legged room mate with your nomadic lifestyle, would be a small Class C motor home! Have home....will travel! 🚐😉
shareTrue, Ksp, very true, and I thank you for that.
The way it's looking now, I may have to move to a temporary, interim place for a month or two, which will mean yet another move. Oh well, it is what it is. Ironic that I've now moved more times in 2 years than I have in my entire life.
Have home will travel, 😄
It's unknown in my book.
share“Dang, getting old sucks.” How right you are, MsGlenEllyn! I can recall my dear departed mom making a comment about getting old. She worked until she was 70...worked hard all her life. All her family did. Maybe because her parents and siblings immigrated from Poland during the early 1900’s. They didn’t expect anything, no freebies; just grateful to be here. So, they worked hard to make a living and depended on themselves....not the government.
Anyhow, I got off track. The comment my mom made was “Getting old and retired isn’t what it’s cracked up to be. You spend all your time going from one doctor to another, lab work, medical tests, and picking up prescriptions!” Many years later I now appreciate her comment. How true!
The years ahead (not too many left) for me are going to be worse. My husband is at that point in a person’s life where s/he is waiting to “kick the bucket”...wanting to die. He’s been in that mindset for the past two years. I firmly believe your body starts to go along with the “losing the will to live” attitude.
Not only is aging hard and painful, older is perceived as negative and inferior by younger people. I was actually called an "old man" by an 18 year old once when I was in my mid-20s. The same thing happened another time when I was called an "old man" by a competitive, resentful younger guy in a very fast-paced manufacturing plant. I was 40 at the time and very vigorous. I saw him again not long ago, behind me in a grocery store checkout line. He was pot-bellied with graying hair and he couldn't make eye contact with me.
shareServes the guy right...the one who is now a pot-bellied cashier!😏 Sad, at one time in our long ago history, we didn’t have the snot nosed, know it all types. Elders were respected. We didn’t have to put up with the young whipper snappers....meaning “a young and inexperienced person considered to be presumptuous or overconfident.”
shareIn front, God I hope so.
shareMy best year shave been over for quite some time.

As Lauren BaCall said, "Getting old is not for sissies."
