Best or Accurate Political Movies ever?

Doesn't matter what the leaning is... It can be a favorite, or one you think that is accurate, you can describe your decision-making.

It's been a while, but I remember "The Edukators" being a great political film.

-Network

-The Godfather (more abstract) than There Will Be Blood

Mr. Smith Goes To Washington

-A Face in the Crowd

I'll think of more later...

Idiocracy, of course! Oh and I ran across Terry Crews on Wednesday afternoon, said hi to him.

reply

Yes!

reply

Every movie in the 1990s had a black president.

reply

Not "President Whitey" (1997)

reply

Although it was satire, I'd suggest Wag the Dog.

reply

Bob Roberts.

It more or less predicted Trump, although, as brilliant as it is, it's almost been rendered obsolete, since Bob Roberts is way more moderate than Trump.

reply

Didn't Bob Roberts want to impose a theocracy and kill homosexuals?

Painting conservatives that way is like Jussie Smullette level blood libel, some very low level fearmongering propaganda from a very insular communitiy of extremely wealthy people in the Hollywood tribe. The trope is that we will be led away from our higher minded morality by a pied piper who appeals to our base instincts. The reallity is that we are led far more astray toward the artificial and away from the natural by the conscious efforts of a collective media. America is less like a Normal Rockwell painting than ever, yet the kvetching gets louder.

Trump isn't even ideological. He just looks extreme to you because he has mildly opposed the orthodoxy of open borders and perpetual wars.

Er, no...

Have you even seen the film?

And when was America ever like a Norman Rockwell painting?

reply

Kill the Messenger (2014) is a personal favorite.

reply

Best and Accurate sure don't mean the same thing, but it does open things up.
The first two that come to mind are the Costa Gavras film Z , and
Stanley Kubraick's Paths Of Glory.
I just saw the last half of Saving Private Ryan. Seems like feelings are mixed on that one.

reply

Thirteen Days (2000) was great.

reply

Charlie Wilson's War was an excellent political drama but I'm not sure how accurate it was

reply

I could list my favorites but accurate? Who knows?

All films that purport to depict reality -- including docs -- are slanted impressions at best.
