What's Your Favorite....

concert you'eve ever been to?

I've been to hundreds and still go to about 30-40 a year.

I keep going back to a concert in Phoenix 30 years ago.
Aerosmith opening for the Scorpions.
8 bands all day long in the desert.
People were passing out and 9 months later there are people out there
who were conceived at this concert.
It held 15,000 people but almost 40,000 tickets were sold.
It was insane! After this concert Phoenix changed it's laws regarding capacity.
I didn't leave the parking lot until 6 am. I had to be at work 90 miles away
at 6:30.

My first concert is also special to me.
I saw KISS when I was about 10 years old.

Jeff Buckley in Chicago shortly before he died.

What are your favorite concerts?

reply

Where in Phoenix was this concert?

I haven't been to very many concerts, but by far the best one was in Phoenix (I can't remember the venue). I got to see The Outlaws: Willie Nelson, Waylon Jennings, Tompall Glaser, and Jessi Colter (Waylon's wife). Awesome concert and I got to go backstage and meet Waylon and Willie.

reply

It was at Compton Terrace which is actually Tempe but it's really the same thing.
Compton Terrace no longer is with us.

Wow. Did you get smoke with Willie?
I saw Waylon once when I was kid.

reply

No, no smoking with Willie, but a nice chat with him. Waylon was kind of quiet.

reply

Have you ever heard the song by Toby Keith- I'll Never Smoke Weed With Willie Again?
It's very funny!

reply

Yes, I have. Fun song. Companion song is Willie's 'Roll Me Up and Smoke Me When I'm Gone.'

reply

He actually has his own strain of pot out there.
Called Willie's Reserve of course!

reply

I've been blessed to not only attend some great concerts, but also to work alongside roadies in setting them up.

Just off the top of my head, one of my favorites was a knockout with Buddy Miles, Deep Purple and Uriah Heep.

reply

I know we've talked about this before but that concert would have been legendary.

reply

Yeah, those were some of the most popular groups at the time, together during one concert and a great light show in addition.

reply

I would have been happy to see even one of these artists.

reply

It was definitely memorable and I guess why it immediately came to mind.

reply

Steve Harley at Tunbridge Wells Assembly Rooms,I was on the front row and as he shook his head I felt his sweat!

reply

How long before you washed after getting some of that sweet sweat?

reply

Motley Crue
Carnival of Sins tour
They were amazing and super LOUD!!!
They came to shake the building and did they ever⚡️⚡️⚡️
Great show!

I saw Aerosmith once and Tyler scolded the crowd...honestly, i love their stuff but they were just 'ok' that night, maybe it had been a long tour, the outdoor arena was horribly designed and it was raining, beers were about $10 a pop and the goony guards patted everyone down to confiscate the weed and booze...🚫😖🌂
It sucked

Those were my best and worst concerts

*honorable mention to Adam Sandler...i saw him in Manhatten doing his dopey joke songs live...i couldnt decide who was the bigger idiot
Him for doing such a travesty of a show or me for paying $40 bucks plus carfare!

reply

Um, I think it's you...$40 plus carfare...ouch! 😬 What were you thinking?? You must have been pretty desperate.

reply

Um...i think you are so right im not even going to argue lol😂
That was a long time ago but i remember it was so stupid and boring!!!
Seriously laughing

It was a double date and the girls wanted to go
We almost got attacked by a homeless druggy guy outside the theatre...it was nuts
My buddy and i both got lucky (with our dates i should add) so...win?

reply

Nice!

I got to see the Crue a few times.
My favorite was the Dr. Feelgood tour with Skid Row opening.
Tommy Lee twisting and turning over the audience in his little drum robot thing they had going on.

That would have sucked royally.
When I saw Aerosmith they were getting ready for their own tour so they played a couple
warm up shows before they went out. So that night they were on fire. The only time I've seen them.

reply

Yeah Crue killed it

Aerosmith...not their fault id say
Just a crappy night for everyone lol

reply

Everybody but the goony guards.
Sounds like they made out all right.

Some concerts are like that.
I saw Huey Lewis back in the 80's and they sucked.
I saw them last summer on stage at a music festival and they killed it.
I have no idea what any of this means but it is what it is.

reply

Yup...those goons got high for days off of the swag

I guess the venue has a lot to do with the experience...it SHOULD be just about the music but you know... Comfort and drunky-ness are nice perks

reply

I think sometimes when you're popular you get lazy.
After awhile you realize what you had and realize that you took it for granted.

reply

I get you
They ARE huge and who doesnt love them...Aerosmith just came out at 75% (i made that number up...sorry) and it showed

We simply MUST always remain hungry!
I skip meals constantly, tell strangers what i think and really try to make 'a go' of it...
Being fabulous AND lazy simply disgusts me
But i get it, they are Rock gods so all is cool

Not for nothing amigo...you are not a lazy boy
You are on point
I respect the hell out of that

reply

I know it's not easy being on the road but come on.
It's what you signed up for.
The more popular you get the more it costs people to go to your show.
Make it worthwhile!

We try to bring our A game every night.
We don't always succeed but we put it all out there.

reply

Rock stars are total crybabies
I listen to their awesome nonsense all day but the reality really sucks!

Yes, we try and often fail ( ive really laid some doozies..no responses to an OP is the worst! )
I like to think that comedy is our business and business is good

reply

I've had my fair share too.
I've never had one with no responses but one with only croft responding so it's
basically the same thing.

You're golden. I think I'm hysterical but I'm in the minority on this.
Between the two of us we got it all covered!
That's all that matters.

reply

Ha!
I loved that guy until he got rape jokey and 'moley...'
Frankly, i rather enjoyed his goofy schtick up until a certain point...i was all in on the lonely/goofy foreigner thing
It was working imo

Thanks...im more like pot metal than gold lol
You are more than Hysterical
You are top shelf all the way...one of our top people!
Witty, kind and fair...mayor Dewey!

Lets keep rocking this joint Hombre

reply

You and dewey are the backbone of MC

reply

Oh not me amigo but thx for the kind post...you really are a bro!

This crazy joint has real legends...im kind of a well meaning doofus really

reply

Stop it.

The best I can hope for is to be one of those little bones in the foot.
This would be an improvement.
We all need a goal in life.

reply

at least the hyoid bone

reply

The best I can hope to be is a lateral cuniform.

reply

It was working until he reached for the sun and got burned.

If you're pot metal then I'm tissue paper.

Let's keep this rock n roll fantasy alive!

reply

He made me sad

But fuck that!
I got AC⚡️DC going loud in the garage right now

Rock and Roll yes!!

Stay Golden Pony Boy

reply

We're going to shake this shit all night long!

reply

Im in

Also, im getting a bit drunk

So this should be classic

reply

I think I'm getting there.
It's always a classic on the weekends.

reply

oh hell yeah!

Queen now on the old garage radio!!!

So cool, im nearly blasted and Queen is killing it now

Queen really rocked...damn

reply

They're not half bad!

I'm doing up a little Goodie Mob followed up by Days of the New.
Just trying to keep it real.

reply

I dont think i know those bands but if you endorse them then im certain they are worth looking into

reply

Goodie Mob is kind of a hip hop rap thing.
I don't listen to a lot of this but I do like them.

Days of the New is just excellent.
One of many

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Wg-HZd4Lb2Q

reply

Its funny that the song from your link was ending on my radio when you posted that

Good song!

It was on the local station

reply

I wouldn't steer you wrong bro.

reply

Never

Got The Offspring going now

Come out and play

Good stuff!

reply

Great stuff.
Now dance, fucker, dance!

reply

...but one with only croft responding...

" I don't care who you are but that there's funny. " 😆

reply

It makes me feel like MMC2.

That makes me very sad.

reply

You smart ass ! That's another very wry observation. At least you're empathetic. 😁

reply

lol.
Thought you'd appreciate that one.

I can't be mad so why not be empathetic.
I think he needs it.

reply

"only croft responding"

laugh of the week

reply

It would by hysterical if it wasn't true.
Where did I go wrong?

reply

We all have been there.

reply

That's what they don't tell you when you sing up.
That should be under the terms and conditions!

reply

I haven't been to many concerts actually. The only one with contemporary music had acts like The Backstreet Boys, Peter Andre, 'N Sync, Aaron Carter, All Saints, Five, Aqua and 98 Degrees.

reply

We need to change that.

I'm going to see Trampled by Turtles soon.
Also Queens of the Stone Age and Royal Blood.
Maybe even Manic Street Preachers!

Will you go with me?

reply

Trampled by Turtles? Is that what their music sounds like?

reply

I can see you you're not yourself.
I won't even say anything about their Pixie remake.

reply

Who or what is Pixie? Obviously I'm not in the loop, dewey. I've been spending too much time with my Korean friends.

reply

I know you've at least heard this song.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5iC0YXspJRM&list=RD5iC0YXspJRM

BTW- You're Korean friends are fine people.

reply

Oh, the grunge band Pixies! I've only heard of them because of Nirvana. If we're doing grunge, let's go with the latter.

I don't know, they could be North Korean agents sent by fatass Kim!

reply

Well, we aren't doing grunge because the Pixies are not grunge.

This will be a work in progress I see.
I'm so glad you're worth it!

He's put on a little weight but I hardly think that's necessary.

reply

I'll call them grunge if I want to.😑

You're okay with murderous dictator?

reply

You of course can be wrong and call them whatever you want to.
It's certainly your prerogative the day after Women's Day.

No I'm not but I don't think talking about his weight gain in the
posterior region is helpful.
Just talk shit about his haircut and his face and be done with it.

reply

Wah, I can't even call him a murderous dictator???

I don't think there's harm, though, in pointing out he stuffs himself with as much food as possible while his people are starving. In his case the weight gain is an actual insult.

But your non-grunge Pixies were good for one thing. I finally get the "this monkey's gone to heaven" reference in Fire, Water, Burn!

reply

That's a fair point.
What a fat ass he is.

See, the Pixies bring people together.
It's not for everybody I'll admit that, nor is Trampled by Turtles, although they
are very good and unique.

Can we at least agree on Royal Blood.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jhgVu2lsi_k&list=RDjhgVu2lsi_k

reply

Okay, it's obvious that musically I've not been living in the West for quite some time now. Never heard of these guys before. Who do they remind me of? The White Stripes?

But how about The Killers? I remember them. They were not too bad. Not alternative enough?

reply

I'm now impressed.
Royal Blood is actually from England. They've also only been around
for a few years. Similar to White Stripes. I never thought of that but it's accurate.
I don't think they're very popular over here.

I actually love The Killers. One of my favorite bands over the last decade or so.
How are you for The Black Keys?
Kind of an alternative blues type thing going on.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6k8es2BNloE

reply

I hate to disappoint you, dewey, but blues is totally not my thing. You have to remember I'm still a pop trollop at heart!

reply

Well, you can never disappoint me so ....

We can find a common ground.
How are you for emo rock?
or
Lukas Graham?
Airborne Toxic Event?

reply

You need to go more mainstream! Maybe back in time. I've never heard of those! And obviously I don't know my emo from grunge.☹

Oh wait, I do know 7 Years.😑

reply

This will be a challenge.
I don't listen to the radio at all.

Lukas Graham may be the newest one.
I think it may have been popular?

Arctic Monkeys?
Hozier?
Cage the Elephant?
Vampire Weekend?
Foo Fighters?
Walk the Moon?
Alexi Murdoch?

reply

I also hardly listen to the radio except for golden oldies. It's 70s, 80s and 90s rock that rules.

That 7 Years song was everywhere!

I know the Arctic Monkeys, but I can't say I really like any of their songs. Foo Fighters weren't too bad, I thought their Mentos parody video was quite funny.

Now I'm reminded of The Smashing Pumpkins. My sister and I had a whole discussion about them last week. I really love their song Tonight, Tonight. 1979 was quite good as well.

reply

I thought 7 Years may have been popular.
I was playing it once and had two people comment on it.
Most people don't comment on my music.
Other than I've never heard that before.

OK. This may be it. I didn't go back far enough or big enough.
I love the Pumpkins.

We can agree on them and that is an awesome song.
I will push it but I'm listening to this song right now.

How do you feel about songs about vampires?

reply

Ah, of course, Liv Tyler's ex-husband's band.

Are there actually songs about vampires? Oh wait, I believe Total Eclipse of the Heart had something to do with vampires!

reply

I never knew he was married to Liv Tyler.
Love when you teach me new things!

Funny you mention that song.
Watch this
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fsgWUq0fdKk

This song is about vampires.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EkwD5rQ-_d4

reply

So it's not about possums???

I do not know all these bands. I guess alternative rock was never that huge here in Europe. I do know the video right below, Nada Surf with Popular.

I love Total Eclipse of the Heart, but that's pretty much what I think every time I see the video!

reply

Yes it is.
Vampire possums who will give you everlasting life.

After watching Total Eclipse I never knew I
was singing it wrong all these years.
Ya live, ya learn!

reply

Well, who can refuse an offer like that from a cute, fluffy vampire possum?! I certainly can't!

reply

I don't see how you could.
I've never been asked to walk behind the
boat house but I wouldn't pass it up.
It really is a once in a lifetime thing!

reply

🤣 Your response here totally cracked me up. Thanks for a good laugh! 🤣

reply

Race you to the Mama Pyjama thread?
I'll start when you say go

reply

Let's do it.

reply

When we hosted and set up the J. Geils Band at the venue where I worked, a major request of theirs was an ample supply of vitamin B-12 shots for Peter Wolf, who at that time was known for his onstage high level of energy.

reply

I've always gotten a kick at some of the requests of the performers.
B-12 seems light compared to some of the stories out there.

reply

Yeah but natural and legal to get that performance edge.

reply

Radiohead at Festival Hall, Melbourne in 1998.

reply

Sweet!

They were always on my list but never had the opportunity to see them.

reply
