What would you do if you woke up and discovered you were the only person on Earth?

How would you spend your time?

reply

If there was food and shelter I would relax.

reply

Food won't last forever.
You'd have tons of it but it won't last that long.

reply

canned food can last years if kept in a dry dark place. frozen also if you have a power source. dried and salted foods can also last years if stored properly.

reply

Eventually there will be no power.
Canned food can last years but not forever.

It depends on how long you plan on living. If you're going to be around for 20 or 30 years
you'd have do something else.

I would look for solar or wind powered places to live.
I also think living in a northern climate would be better. At least you would have a freezer
for part of the year.

reply

I pretty sure Twinkies/Little Debbies could survive a nuclear fallout.

reply

But could you survive eating Twinkies and Little Debbies?

I'd much rather do a little work then rely on Debbie.
I really don't like those things.

reply

gain as much as weight as possible by whatever means

reply

Then go into diabetic shock and now your food for all the critters.
Nice of you to give back to the animals though.

Might not have tasted good, but it was still edible! With modern canning technology, I'd bet canned food would last longer if stored in a cool, dry place like a basement or root cellar.

reply

That's really interesting. Gross but interesting.

Another reason to stay or go to a northern climate.
Not necessarily the North pole but somewhere you have seasons and a winter
to help preserve food.

An underground root cellar would be perfect. You could even make it below the frost line.

reply

Well there would be no electricity without people working at the power plants. You could use generators but the gasoline will eventually go bad, they never show this in The Walking Dead, but gas does eventually lose it's usability. So you can cross watching tv and playing video games off your list. After a few years, cross driving off your list. I guess you better get some horses and dogs. Goats and chickens.
Working a farm alone is very very difficult. Many of those jobs need at least two strong people. That's why farmers used to have lots of kids. There would be lots of fish and game and pretty much unlimited guns and ammo. At least you'd have enough to last for your lifetime. When you get too old to hunt and fish, you could shoot yourself.

Omega Man (1971) scenario.

reply

That was a great one!

reply

reading paper books like the old Twilight Zone episode.

reply

Amazing how that ep in particular comes up so frequently
Even in real life i hear it referanced fairly often
It is a great one

reply

I seem to encounter the one with William Shatner and the gremlin on the airplane wing often. It was mentioned on an episode of Jeopardy last week and on another show maybe a couple of days previous to that.

reply

Great stuff!
And who doesnt love Billy Shat?!
C'mon...guys a legend

reply

Well, that's just it, isn't it? You don't know how you would react to that. It probably wouldn't be as nice as you would imagine. People tend to go a little nutty pretty quickly once they go into social isolation.

reply

First of all,i will make myself an imaginary friend.
I have enough supplies and start exploring.

reply

what about wild animals ??

reply

Well, you have to be equipped for that.My choice will be a bow,but for the bigger animals i'll use a firearm.

reply

you have bears/wolves and big cats there ???

reply

Yes we do,on mountain region.

reply

You live on a farm and might survive longer than us city folks.

reply

That's true, but in order for you ( i mean those who live in cities ) to survive, you'll have to adapt.

reply

we would be cannibals within a matter of weeks.

reply

Well,that's a scary scenario.I will stay away from cities,then.

reply

I'd say "finally!", then take out the list of things I've been planning to do in such a situation.

For example, I've always wanted to ride my bicycle on a busy highway - but when it wasn't busy. And take my time choosing froyo toppings, without the pressure of someone waiting at a counter or behind me. Just random things I've always wanted to do but couldn't because people were there.

reply

Panic.

reply

This is probably how we'd all react truth be told

reply

Sleep and Read
