This has been going on forever.
People who really don't have any talent or don't bring anything to the table.
It's apparent now more than ever with all the reality stuff.
Some old school ones
Zsa Zsa Gabor
Kitty Carlisle
Charro
Some newer ones
Paris Hilton
All of the Kardashians
"With all due respect" anyone mentioned who is an actor and is famous doesn't belong on any list here.
Whether or not we like them is irrelevant really, they are famous for something.
Your criteria Famous for being Famous and examples of the Kardashians etc suggests you're looking for people who don't have a talent apart from plastering on make up and turning up to stuff yes? Or whatever the male equivalent of that is.
In the UK we have the WAG (Wives and Girlfriends predominantly of premier league footballers) who have no discernible claim to fame except for being married to some ugly, whore mongering toerag who happens to kick a ball around with precision (occasionally). They often get cheated on,sell their tale of woe to the paper and then sobbingly forgive the errant partner and do an "Hello" shoot. They get papped all the time, usually on holiday or shopping. It's bizarre.Quite literally famous for nothing.
Same thing here in Canada with the wives/girlfriends of hockey players - they are usually blonde and seem to have no identity or career unto themselves.
If you say they are famous for something even being famous for being famous is something.
Actors are famous for something so is being famous for being famous. It is something.
For me, I also think of actors who haven't done anything worthwhile lately that are still just famous.
On this point it looks like I'm in the minority.
We have many of those shows over here. Shows about athletes and such.
You can even be famous here just for living in a certain city.
Mansfield was a playmate.
She was an actress. Even won a golden globe I think.
She has one of the most gruesome deaths ever.
She has a famous talented daughter.
I'm glad we agree on the crossover theory.
Hard for me to put these two in the same category.
It's all so new.
I'm going to need some time with this one.
How about JK Rowling? She should be known only as the author of Harry Potter books more than a decade ago... and stop right there. Nothing more, nothing less. The other things she does today are irrelevant.
Now come on JK wrote 7 hugely successful books which spawned films, plays, books and the Fantastic Beasts films. She's written at least 2 novels outside of HP universe and one was dramatised for British tv.She definitely doesn't fit the famous for famous label!
Yes, I think Dazed mentioned that.
All you have to do is marry somebody famous and now you're famous.
Apparently if helps if you live in certain cities.
Dazed mentioned WAGS, but yeah, all those shows and the women are on it are interchangeable. A small handful of the Real Housewives had successful careers prior to joining the franchise, but most just married well. They end up splitting after a few seasons.
Mostly true but some notable exceptions.
Ok from the New York show Bethenny Frankel has her own multi million dollar business,Carole Radziwill is an author and journalist who worked for ABC,wrote a wonderful memoir about losing her husband to cancer and the death of their friends John and Caroline Kennedy.Ramona Singer is crazier than several boxes of frogs but is a successful business woman in her own right.
As is Lisa Vanderpump from Beverley Hills and Vicky from OC.Not all are married to famous or rich guys.
I watch the NY one and occasionally the other two I mentioned.
It's a weird fascination to see how rich people live/behave I can't really explain it.
Yes fuck cancer.Do you remember me telling you about the tragedy whores? i.e folks who latch onto recently bereaved so they catch the kudos? That was from Radziwill's book "What Remains".
I just like crazy ladies.
Not in my house drinking my booze you understand?
Anyway I don't have the money or street smarts to hang around with these women.
I'd like to though.
In a small minority being clever and feisty worked and I liked that. They'll be welcome to the Cava but would probably prefer a vodka martini which I would be unable to offer.
Which Housewives would you like to hang out with, Dazed? I like Kyle and Vanderpump on BH and wouldn't mind hanging out with them minus all the drama that comes along with the others. Especially Lisa Rinna and that reckless mouth of hers.
I quite like Rinna and that is one hell of a mouth!
I haven't seen it for a while as it's only shown randomly here.
I wasn't keen on Ericka and Kim Richards descent into alcohol and drug abuse was hard to watch. But yes Lisa Van and Kyle seem fun.
From the OC I love Heather Dubrow, can't stand Shannon.
From NYC I kind of love them all but for different reasons.I do miss Jill though.
I'm choosing a bunch of people who I just think oversaturate all media outlets. They're not necessarily untalented or bad people, but I feel like they're not relevant anymore and I'm confused when I see them.
Bella Thorne - I know you're an actor, but why don't you actually go act in something and then we can have articles about that, kay?
Bella Hadid - what even do you do?
Selena Gomez - oh, look Selena Gomez still has a face! Let's read about that...not.
Rita Ora - Just, what?
Beyonce - She has been around since I was a kid, and I'm not a kid anymore. I know I'm in the minority, but I don't listen to the same singers I did when I was 10 and I don't want to be listening to Beyonce when I'm 70.
Ellen - Again, I know I'm in the minority but like why is she famous? Why? Lots of people have talk shows. Talk shows are generally shit except for the free stuff you get.
Bella Thorne-I don't really know who she is and I couldn't pick her out from a line up and yet I know the name!
Bella Hadid-Yes and Gigi and isn't there a brother who is a model too? There seem to be an awful lot of celebrity offspring who are models.
Selena Gomez-Bieber's girlfriend? Singer? Like Bella Thorne I know the name but that's it.
Rita Ora-sings,not my cup of tea but has a talent I suppose
Beyonce-ditto
Ellen-a long time ago she was an actress in her own sitcom,I actually rather liked it until she came out and then it became about that.
If you have Snapchat you'll see almost all of these women in articles on there regularly, but it's never for something related to their professions. It's just because they exist.
I've been encouraged to use it by friends. It's mostly useless and frustrating. But as someone over 45 you should be welcome to do any and all things that interest you bar illegal activities.
I do feel welcome however it's not something I need in my life.I have Instagram which I use for my artwork supposedly, in reality I forget I have the app.
I feel Snapchat might be something for young people to have as their own without sad oldies using it!
